Sewer system renewal, network management and system optimization support the Citys efforts to be a leader in clean water, excellent customer service and city resilience.The incumbent will report to the Drafting Supervisor and work as part of a Drafting Team creating and managing accurate sewer infrastructure construction drawings and as-built information, while working in a GIS/AutoCADMap3D & Civil 3D/TopoBase environment using departmental digital/paper records.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesCreate sewer design construction drawings using GIS/AutoCAD/TopoBase environment using departmental paper records and electronic databasesUpdate GIS as-built informationResearch and provide technical and other information regarding sewer and water infrastructure for the public, city staff and private companies, providing written correspondence as requiredUndertake quality control processes related to existing GIS dataMake recommendations to improve branch processes and information access needsCarry out design and construction technical assignmentsPerform other technical duties required to meet the operational needs of the Sewers branchCommunicate and correspond with the public, private companies, outside agencies and other City branchesOther duties/responsibilities as assignedQualificationsEducation and Experience:Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by technical courses related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Institute of Technology diploma or completion of equivalent University courses an assetExperience as an Engineering Assistant an assetExperience preparing AutoCAD construction drawings in Civil 3D.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Good knowledge of municipal design and construction of sewer systemsKnowledge of surveyor methods and techniquesWorking knowledge of standard engineering concepts and terminologyStrong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer serviceAbility to perform accurate survey work, draft simple designs, and make routine office and field engineering computationsAbility to read and interpret engineering plans and understand specificationsAbility to problem solve with accuracy in a technical environment;Ability to work efficiently in a team environment with little supervision and under tight time linesAbility to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersAbility to work outdoors in inclement weatherProficient in the use of software applications, geographical information systems and databases such as TopoBase, Hansen, AutoCAD Map 3D, and Civil 3DAbility to arrange suitable transportation to various work locationsWhere operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite.
