Qualifications: Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in hospitality or a retirement home Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors Ability to speak and write English. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and to do simple arithmetic calculations Ability to do extensive standing, walking, squatting and lifting of laundry Good physical and mental health and free from communicable disease Certified in CPR and First Aid recommended Good understanding of the nursing process Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures. PSW certification, if applicable Previous food service experience an asset Physical Demands: Standing for extended periods of time-for up to 8 hours/day Walking short distances and maneuvering in tight spaces Pushing/pulling/bending/lifting transferring of laundry carts, wet laundry, chemical pails etc., up to 50 lbs Reaching to upper shelving at times with use of an 18 inch to 3ft step ladder Ability to complete repetitive arm and upper body motions in intervals for periods of up to 8hrs Working in warm temperatures for extended periods of time Memory work required to know residents and preferences Typing and/or use of computer keyboard proficiency Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes Speaking/communicating with individuals Job Description: Sort, wash, dry and fold laundry Store and deliver linens and personal clothing to residents Be knowledgeable of and practice residence''s fire and safety programs Clean, dust, vacuum resident''s bedrooms, bathrooms, living spaces Clean and sanitize resident''s bathroom, as well as common area bathrooms Clean vacant rooms and prepare rooms for incoming residents Collect refuse from resident''s rooms and other areas of the residence and dispose of in accordance with set procedures Clean and organize outdoor patio furniture Clean and restock housekeeping cart Remove lint from lint filters following the drying of each load Observe the operation of the machines and report any malfunctioning to the Building Services Manager Clean laundry equipment, tubs, floors and laundry area Notify Building Services Manager when supplies are low Report malfunctions in equipment and repairs needed to Building Services Manager Notifies Director of Wellness of any resident and/or family concerns Attends and actively participates in daily communication meetings Provides feedback in the assessment of every resident and in the development of the Plan of Care Answers call bells when necessary Observe and report any resident changes in condition Complete nursing documentation if applicable Deals courteously with staff, residents, resident families and visitors Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident Strives to understand and respond to each resident with empathy, always remaining mindful of the resident''s unique communication patterns, history and basic human needs Assist with monthly blood pressures and weights as assigned Provide emergency first aid/nursing care until appropriate medical care is available Assist with resident admissions and discharges, when required Assist with any other duties as directed by the Director of Wellness Assist with 2-person or mechanical lift transfers Assist residents with bathing, grooming, dressing as required Practices safety procedures at al times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures, Safety Data Sheets and Lockout Tagout procedures Reports all accidents/incidents immediately Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations Perform all other job duties as assigned Refer and adhere to all policies and procedures as they are in effect Job Type: Part-time Pay: From $18.51 per hour Work Location: In person
