Job Overview Reporting to the Maintenance Operator or Designate, the General Maintenance Worker enhances the dignity and quality of life of Good Shepherd''s clients and visitors through his/her assumed responsibility in property management. This is accomplished through the timeliness and quality of day-to-day repairs, general maintenance and preventative maintenance of all Good Shepherd Ministries'' property and equipment. Responsibilities To carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries. To observe all health and safety rules and regulations and to work in a manner that minimizes risk to yourself, clients, staff, and others as well as to the property of Good Shepherd Ministries. To perform your job responsibilities in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. To carry out day to day preventative maintenance and timely repairs of all Good Shepherd Ministries property and equipment. To be responsible to receive work orders and to satisfy their requirements as directed by the Maintenance Operator To complete and record Fire and Safety inspections and carry out all necessary safety system repairs as required by the Maintenance Operator To maintain the property''s structure and cleanliness as needed via minor landscaping, cleaning, etc To safely and efficiently use ladders and other equipment as required To use handy tools such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, drills, etc as required To inform the Maintenance Operator of any damage, faults, or necessary repairs to the property and equipment of Good Shepherd To follow directives from the Maintenance Operator or designate to issue maintenance repair orders to the approved service contractors and to retain a record of repair work completed. To assist the maintenance operator in preparing a list of outstanding work orders, along with work orders referred to service contractors, for weekly review by the Maintenance Operator, or designate. To maintain the property and grounds in a clean and safe condition, free from all hazards (i.e. snow removal, pressure wash exterior of building, etc.) To assist the Maintenance Operator in his/her duties and assume responsibility as required To perform any other job-related task that may from time to time be assigned by the Maintenance Operator or designate. Requirements Experience in property maintenance acquired through a vocational qualification or equivalent work-related experience. Experience and familiarity with ''handy tools'' such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, drills, etc Ability to safely and efficiently use ladders, platforms, and other equipment with proficiency and following health and safety standards Ability to safely and efficiently lift up to 25kg of materials, tools, equipment, etc unassisted Comfortable with performing essential maintenance and cleaning tasks as required such as bathroom maintenance and outdoor repairs Organizational skills to prioritize workload and a demonstrated ability to provide direction and supervision to contractors. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills to encourage and maintain teamwork and communicate with service engineers, contractors or sub-contractors and deal effectively with a difficult client group are necessary.
