A Role Where Your Expertise Truly Matters We are looking for an indeterminate, full-time Patent Assistant with a minimum of four years of experience preparing, filing, and reporting patent responses to office actions and related matters. A science or engineering degree would be considered an asset. This role is wellsuited to an experienced Patent Assistant who is comfortable exercising judgment, managing files independently, and contributing to the efficiency and quality of patent prosecution work. What You''ll Lead and Contribute To In this role, you''ll work closely with MacRae & Co. Agent(s) supporting the preparation and handling of patent prosecution files, including but not limited to preparing responses for Agent review; monitoring of deadlines and sending appropriate reminders to clients; reviewing, proofreading, docketing, and reporting official correspondence from CIPO, including reporting office actions. You''ll be able to use your science/engineering background and management skills and apply pro-active and problem-solving skills. You will facilitate the patent prosecution process by simplifying the complex and providing support to our Agents. In addition to core prosecution support, you will have opportunities to contribute to workflow improvements, process consistency, and continuous improvement within the practice through your strong organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities. Your accuracy, attention to detail, sound judgment and personal accountability will play a crucial role in delivering the exceptional service for which MacRae & Co. is known. While your core focus will be patent prosecution, your contributions may evolve as you grow with the team. Prepare, file and report patent responses to office actions Monitor deadlines and send appropriate reminders Review, proofread, docket, and report official correspondence from CIPO, including reporting office actions Update our docket system and save correspondence using internal policy/practice standards Prepare and communicate invoices Manage foreign patent applications Qualifications and Education Minimum of four years of relevant Canadian patent prosecution experience Demonstrated experience as a high-level Patent Assistant is a must Strong working knowledge of patent prosecution and docketing is required.
