Overview Associate, Real Estate Finance role at CIBC . The Real Estate Finance Division focuses exclusively on providing financing to real estate companies on both an interim/construction and term basis across Canada. Our team is comprised of experienced real estate professionals with offices located in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, London, Hamilton and Montreal. The Associate will gain exposure to real estate lending and the management of key client relationships as part of the Real Estate Corporate Banking team, which provides innovative financial solutions to Canadian REITs, pension funds, and private equity firms. The incumbent will be involved with a variety of projects to expose them to loan underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management. Responsibilities Research & Analysis - Responsible for conducting in-depth company, industry, and portfolio analysis. Assist in performing risk assessments for existing and new credit arrangements through completing financial statement analysis, sensitivity and scenario analysis, valuation of different asset classes (e.g., office, retail, residential, industrial), and reviewing third party reports (environmental reports, appraisals, etc.). Financial Modelling Build financial models mainly focused on credit analysis and risk rating evaluation. Cross Functional Collaboration and Credit Recommendations - Present informal and formal deal structuring discussions to senior management as part of the deal team. Collaborate with internal risk partners and stakeholders across CIBC (e.g., Investment Banking, Interest Rate Solutions, Debt Capital Markets) to analyze key risks and mitigation strategies in existing and new credits. Business Development Support - Fulfill day-to-day requests of a portfolio of clients alongside Relationship Managers. Proactively assess clients needs, propose solutions, and execute as instructed by the client. Assist in preparing client proposals and information memoranda. Attend client events, meetings, and site visits to develop key client relationships. Portfolio Management Client Service - Play an integral role in end-to-end loan processing (from structuring to funding). Collaborate with various teams to fulfill day-to-day tasks such as loan processing, deposit accounts, signing authorities, non/negotiable securities, and review of cash management arrangements. Qualifications You can demonstrate relevant professional or educational experience (0-2 years) in finance, real estate, lending or related fields. You also have experience with financial statements and accounting principles to assess lending risk, with specific emphasis on the real estate industry. You have a degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field. Youre a team player and able to work well within a group setting.
