Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer Opportunity ID: 5365 Responsibilities A facilitator plans, guides, and manages an in-person peer support group for MDAM. Facilitate peer support groups that are led by volunteers with lived experience with mood disorders or co-occurring disorders. Description Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba (MDAM) is a not-for-profit organization. It is a self-help organization dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy for those living with mental health illnesses through peer support and other services. Today, MDAM operates throughout Manitoba, supporting individuals, their friends, families, and caregivers that have been affected by mood disorders. One of the services we offer are peer support groups that are facilitated by dedicated volunteers that have lived experience with mood disorders or co-occurring disorders. Skills Required English language proficiency Lived or working experience with mental health Organizational and leadership skills Excellent interpersonal skills Well-developed listening skills Knowledge of peer support or mental wellness (asset training will be provided) Skills Gained / Related Careers Peer Support Mental Health Support Leadership, direction, and mentorship Problem-solving Judgment, Situational awareness Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+ Time Commitment: Evening The volunteer shift for facilitating the Mens in-person peer support group is every Thursday from 5:30pm6:30pm.
