Position Purpose The Supervisor, Nutrition Operations is responsible for nutrition, physiology, feed development, and nutritional programs research. The role oversees the implementation of diet changes with a focus on speciesspecific nutrition requirements, welfare, and clinical nutrition. The position also supports the implementation of the Strategic Plan. Core Role Responsibilities Manage development, proposals, initiation, and execution of nutrition and physiology research aimed at improving animal welfare and conservation of species in the wild. Operate the maintenance and development of the computerized nutrition record registration systems, including nutritional information in ZIMS. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and instructions while assisting with developing SOPs and branch instructions. Report on safety hazards and recommend appropriate action. Liaise with Wildlife Care branches (Wildlife Care and Welfare Science) and other staff in the Wildlife & Science Division on matters pertaining to animal health and welfare. Manage food production operations to ensure highquality diets are made to support animal health and welfare. Oversee the feed quality control program and evaluate speciesspecific diet programs, product and inventory, and initiate purchases as required. Coordinate and execute nutritional rounds. Assist in training and enrichment programs as they relate to nutrition and animal welfare with Wildlife Care branches. Oversee implementation of approved diet changes and the execution of diet preparation. Assist with grant writing and revenue generation programs. Implement and run a comprehensive browse and silage program to decrease reliance on imported produce and achieve ongoing annual cost savings. Assist in the development, supervision, and execution of nutritionrelated research. Assist with the preparation of scientific papers and articles for journals and internal and external publications. Facilitate tours, outreach activities, and media events in the area. Assist with the preparation and administration of the annual nutrition research and costcentre budgets. Technical Knowledge And Skills Possess a graduate degree in Animal Nutrition and a professional designation, with research experience in a major zoological facility or an equivalent combination of training and related experience. Have 3-5 years progressive related experience, including 1 year demonstrated experience providing leadership. Experience in a unionised environment preferred. Have experience in feed formulation and feed quality control techniques, sanitation, and maintaining feeding programs of an array of taxa. Be capable of producing comprehensive, accurate reports of a complex nature. Have a demonstrated ability to lead and supervise. Be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems, including Microsoft Office365. Have welldeveloped interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills. Have a working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation. Be able to work weekends, shifts, and holidays. Be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner. Have basic knowledge of budget preparation and administration. Be capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.
