Come and join our team About the role The Manager, Public Affairs delivers evidence-based views, positions, and strategies and promotes engagement related to public affairs. The Manager manages the content of and participation in federal government consultations and public policy arenas and fosters effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. The Manager takes a lead role in advancing strategic and operational work. The Manager takes a collaborative approach to implementing actions and activities which promote positive image and outcomes for the profession. Key Responsibilities Develops and provides evidence-based views, positions, and strategies on matters of public policy that impact the profession and the public it serves. Identifies opportunities, makes recommendations, and implements and oversees actions and activities that influence government policy makers, encourages the engagement of the profession in public policy, and facilitates the use of engineering expertise by policy makers. Manages Engineers Canada''s participation in government consultations and engagement in relevant public policy areas, through formal and informal mechanisms. Supports organizational activities to strengthen the reputation of the engineering profession, identifies future challenges facing the profession, and builds public trust in engineers. Identifies and builds relationships with stakeholder groups, regulators, and others in advancing Engineers Canada''s relationships with parliamentarians and the federal public service. Develops committee charges related to this practice area and engages committees in achieving these charges. Leads projects related to the Sustainability strategic direction in Engineers Canada''s Strategic Plan. Education and Experience Requirements Education Graduate from a recognized University, specializing in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy and Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Minimum of (5) five years of management experience in policy-related position in government or in a government relations or policy analysis position in a professional association. Minimum of (3-5) three to five years of experience in the public policy development process. Key Competencies Proficient in the use of Project Management principles, practices, and tools with a track record of delivering projects on time and on budget. Experience working with the wide diversity of cultures within staff, volunteers, clients, and the community in general. Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and time management skills. Highly collaborative with strong oral and written communication skills and ability to influence others. Desirable Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 Business, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. Related post graduate degree. Experience managing complex files with multiple stakeholders at the municipal, provincial, national, and international level. Experience with staff supervision, work planning, budget creation, development, and control. Language Proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in French is an asset. About our working conditions This is a full-time 10-month term position that is based out of our Ottawa head office. There is a requirement to work a minimum of (3) three days/week in the office for the first (3) three months of employment. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered following the onboarding period, subject to management approval.There is a requirement to occasionally work weekends and evenings. This position may require occasional travel within Canada.
