Job Overview Seeking a new and challenging opportunity to further enhance your career? Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for several temporary Research Assistants. The Research Assistant will work as an integral part of a team out of Georgetown, ON that is committed to developing high yielding, disease resistant canola varieties. Within this position you will gain training and experience in controlled greenhouse projects with the possibility of participating in field activities that that will help you to develop valuable insights with different aspects of plant breeding and the seed business. A successful candidate should be a fast learner with a high aptitude for precision and accuracy. These positions will run 4-8 months in duration. Position Overview Greenhouse planting Plant care (staking, tying back, tidying up dropped leaves) Collecting leaf tissue in Greenhouse and/or Field (sampling) Crossing CMS and Emasculating Harvesting Greenhouse and/or Field plants Threshing (extracting seeds from pods) Grain Cleaning Labelling, weighing and organization of seed packages (inventory activities) Seed package filling Field preparation, seeding, plot maintenance (possibly) Assisting with note collection (possibly) Applying seed treatment (possibly) Limited driving of a company vehicle (possibly) Cage constructions and Field preparations (possibly) Required Qualifications PFT & Fit Tested for N-95 Mask Must have a reliable means to work (no public transit) A fast learner, with a high aptitude for precision and accuracy Must be highly motivated and well suited for work in both team-orientated and independent situations Display a competency to perform accurate work in a repetitive motion environment Must be safety orientated Basic computer knowledge & navigational skills Willing and able to work in temperatures 30-35 degrees The candidate should be prepared to engage in physically demanding outdoor work (possibly) Willingness to work overtime hours as necessary Allergens Exposure to allergens such as canola pollen and protein Dust and mildew Seed treatment chemical Other Information This assignment is not a temp-to-hire position This is not a Lab position Job Type: Fixed term contract Contract length: 4-8 months Pay: $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 37.5 per week Benefits: On-site parking Ability to commute/relocate: Caledon, ON L7C 1X1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required) Education: Secondary School (required) Licence/Certification: Driving Licence (preferred) Location: Caledon, ON L7C 1X1 (preferred) Work Location: In person
