Under the guidance of a lawyer, the legal assistant or law clerk will assist in the delivery of legal services in the areas of litigation, corporate and business law, commercial and real estate transactions by performing a variety of tasks, including locating and compiling information, drafting, preparing and proofreading legal and administrative documents (acts, contracts, legal opinions, procedures, correspondence, etc.), filing court documents, as well as applying various practices and procedures related to the field of law. The legal assistant or law clerk will also perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining and organizing files, responding to client inquiries and conducting follow-up, organizing meetings and other general administrative duties. About us A small law firm located in downtown Ottawa is looking for a legal assistant or law clerk to join our team. We provide legal services in corporate law, commercial law, real estate law, and civil litigation. Job description The successful candidate will have: A Law Clerk Diploma or work experience in the legal field Ability to learn fast Good verbal and written communication skills Good time management skills, multitasking skills Professional, responsive and positive work attitude Ability to maintain filing systems Superior computer skills The candidate will assist a lawyer with a wide variety of legal matters, including corporate, commercial, real estate and civil litigation. Work includes, but is not limited to: Drafting letters and other correspondence; Communicating with clients; Drafting pleadings; Creating and maintaining minute books; Preparing documents relating to Real Estate Transactions; Preparing documents relating to the Purchase and Sale of a Business; and Assisting a lawyer with paperwork in various areas. Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent Pay: From $35,000.00 per year Work Location: In person
