Underwriting Assistant Summer Internship The Opportunity: At Burns & Wilcox, were looking for passionate professionals with all levels of experience. We are seeking a dedicated and focused individual in their 4th year of University or College. Interns will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and tasks that will give them exposure to the different business groups at Burns & Wilcox Canada and the H. W. Kaufman Group, with a focus on our core business, Specialty Insurance Underwriting and Sales. They will learn both technical skills and soft skills. This individual should have an interest in underwriting, while also looking for exposure in Operations and HR functions. This is a paid internship running from May to Aug 2026. Keen interest in the insurance industry , specifically within specialty insurance Think analytically t o respond to complex inquiries and make timely decisions Job Responsibilities: Work with specialty insurance team members to help with tasks such as servicing a book of business under the direct supervision of your mentor Process new insurance submissions from clients Log applications, prepare binders, and process policies and endorsements Bind risk, post the invoice and process technical data Order and follow up on inspections and handle endorsement requests and referrals for the underwriter Work on ad hoc tasks as required by the Operations and HR team to support various business initiatives Opportunities to work on presentation and communication skills with Harvard Business Review project Exposure to Senior Leadership in the company An opportunity to expand your knowledge in the specialty insurance space Qualifications: Must be in your 4th year of your Undergraduate Degree or Diploma Maintains strong academic success Solid technical proficiency including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Proven organization skills and ability with a strong attention to detail An interest in learning more about the specialty insurance industry
