About the Role By joining this team you are enabling your own success as you learn from multidisciplinary professionals across British Columbia, Yukon, Calgary, Edmonton, Canmore and Saskatoon. Your projects will primarily be located in the South Okanagan, but you will have the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects across all of the ISL offices. Responsibilities will include: Prepare detailed structural engineering designs/drawings from concept, through tender to construction for a wide variety of projects including commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial, and residential buildings, in various structural materials (mass timber, light-frame wood, concrete, and steel). Assemble and review structural deliverables in collaboration with other team members Review and coordinate deliverables with other project team members including architectural, civil, landscape, process, mechanical, electrical, contractors and suppliers as each project requires Actively participate in project meetings Complete assessments and prepare reports for various buildings and structures Support construction administration objectives and perform field reviews and follow-up reporting. This will include local travel, but may extend to locations throughout Western Canada, as required. Complete submittal and shop drawing reviews and respond to queries that arise during construction. Observe and maintain quality assurance practices and documentation standards on all projects Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives Be a lifelong learner, stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies Collaborate with, advise, and assist team members in other groups and offices Who we are looking for As a new member of ISLs (Buildings and Structures), this future ISLer models our organizational values of Curiosity, Unity, Integrity and Excellence . Your cover letter should include Tell us about a building structure that you feel was designed with creativity and/or using materials efficiently. Your resume must display Registration as an E.I.T. (or eligibility to become registered as an E.I.T.), or equivalent technologist designations Experience within the building construction industry Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a variety of clients and consultant team members to deliver projects successfully. Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate which multidisciplinary team member should be contacted for project efficiency. Knowing preferred options at a field-level and weighing that during the design process and when responding to queries by the project team will be considered an asset. Knowledge and application of structural theory, the British Columbia Building or National Building Codes Code (BCBC 2024), and Canadian Structural Design Standards (O86, S16, A23.3) for wood, steel, and reinforced concrete. Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Excel Ability to respond professionally and problem solve project issues and concerns Assets Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, SAFE, Risa, RFEM, Sizer), and drafting software (Revit) Working knowledge of lateral wind and seismic design requirements for buildings Experience with 3D modeling software Experience with prefabrication of mass timber or light-frame structures, preparation of shop drawings for suppliers, or handson experience in construction Experience working as prime consultant as well as a subconsultant working with architects and contractors Knowledge of structural fundamentals and conventional construction coupled with creative ideas and the use of modern building materials and procedures.
