About the Opportunity Our client is seeking a Site/Yard Manager to oversee daily yard operations and ensure the efficient flow of equipment, materials, trucks, and personnel. This role is critical to maintaining an organized, safe, and highly productive yard environment. The ideal candidate is a steady, hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced settings, can coordinate multiple moving parts, make sound decisions quickly, and keep operations running smoothly without disruption. The Ideal Candidate Our client is looking for someone with hands-on experience managing a scrap yard, waste yard, or a large landscaping or construction site. The successful candidate understands heavy equipment operations and can assess whether loaders, excavators, and other machinery are properly maintained. They value leaders who prioritize organization, maintain control of inventory and tools, and ensure materials are stored appropriately. This individual will hold their team accountable, enforce strict adherence to standard operating procedures, and drive consistent performance against daily operational metrics. Key Responsibilities Maintain an organized, efficient, and safe yard by ensuring lanes remain clear and equipment stays in designated areas Lead and support yard staff, reinforcing safety standards, productivity expectations, and teamwork Control all yard movement, including trucks, bins, and equipment, ensuring smooth operations within assigned zones Coordinate with operators, dispatch, and scale personnel to manage real-time traffic flow and workflow Monitor incoming and outgoing materials, maintaining visibility over yard activity and making decisive operational calls Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring professional and efficient interactions Report on KPIs and operational metrics to senior leadership Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of management experience in the recycling or construction industry within fast-moving environments Demonstrated leadership ability with experience directing and motivating teams Strong communication and decision-making skills, particularly in high-pressure situations Experience working around heavy equipment and heavy trucks (directing operations rather than operating equipment) Strong leadership presence and a hands-on work ethic Solid computer skills including Excel, scheduling, and reporting; Google Workspace experience is considered an asset Knowledge of scrap metal commodities and equipment maintenance is considered an asset Compensation $80K$90K salary range At Aplin together with our brands CompuStaff and Impact Recruitment we connect great people with great organizations across North America.
