RESPONSIBILITIES The Fire and Life Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing all fire suppression and detection systems within facilities to ensure they are operational and meet all Federal regulations, NFPA standards, ULC S536 Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, Canadian Standards Association, CSAC282 Emergency Power Supply for Buildings, and Fire Marshal Directives FMD 4004, FMD 4006. As volume increases, the Fire and Life Safety Manager may also be responsible for overseeing a team of resources to coordinate the planning, execution, and testing of the fire suppression and detection systems in facilities. Ensuring that all preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on the systems is completed and tested as per the NFPA guidelines. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Fire and Life Safety Manager will act as the main point of contact in support of fire system assignments specifically serving Black & McDonalds core FM Support Service contract, including the duties listed below. Acts as an Assistant to the Deputy Fire Chief under the National Fire Protection Act. Ensures enforcement of Federal fire prevention bylaws, Federal Building Codes, National Fire Code (where applicable) and other applicable codes and standards. Manages buildings by enforcing the same codes and reviews building plans for compliance. Coordinates inspections of premises requiring a Federal license to ensure fire safety. Ensures all education programs meet legislative NFPA requirements and community circumstances. Supervises plan examination activities for building permit applications, inspections, enforcement of municipal fire prevention bylaws, Federal Building Codes, National Fire Code, and related public education and fire investigation activities. Conducts fire prevention inspections and enforces compliance with applicable regulations. Provides timely response to enquiries from the Fire Chief (prepares reports or assigned projects when required on behalf of the Fire Chief) and internal/external clients. Prepares monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual reports for the Deputy Fire Chief. Monitors and manages usage of the designated budget. Maintains a records system and files all required reports with appropriate agencies. Develops and administers business and information systems related to fire prevention programs and activities. Reviews policies and procedures relevant to fire prevention and life safety, recommending additions, changes or revisions where necessary. Oversees coordination of presentations, training, etc. on fire prevention for operational personnel, maintenance team, and subcontractors. Discusses fire safety problems with tenants, building inspectors, etc., and speaks on fire safety and fire prevention topics when required. Performs other related duties as assigned. COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Advanced analytical and timemanagement skills. Outstanding understanding of NFPA regulations and standards, either through work experience or qualifications. Thorough knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards. Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and design documents/specifications. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Postsecondary graduation from Building Construction, Engineering, Fire Protection Technology or a similar program with progressive experience in Fire Prevention or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate of the Fire Protection Technology Diploma course and/or the Fire Prevention Officer Diploma course at the Ontario Fire College or equivalent. Proven supervisory skills and ability to direct, evaluate and effectively manage staff. Strong written and interpersonal skills required, including ability to establish effective working relationships and provide quality customer service. Must possess a valid drivers license recognized by the Province of Ontario. CFAA Certification (or eligibility) required. NFPA 1031 and NFPA 1035 are required. WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 35 years of projects management and/or operations management experience in the construction industry. SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Able to commute regularly to the GTA, and travel throughout Ontario (as needed). Security clearance requirements: must be able to obtain reliability and secret clearance. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The expected salary range for this role is between $90,000 $115,000 per year. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, education, experience, and will be part of Black & McDonalds total rewards package.
