Job Description

If you have experience in underwriting, broking and reinsurance and want a new challenge, Zurich Canada is looking for a VP Reinsurance Director to develop and manage complex reinsurance strategies, build high-level relationships with reinsurers, brokers and portfolio managers at the SVP level. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring four days per week of in-person presence and may include time in the office or market-facing engagements. Reporting to the EVP Chief Underwriting Officer and in close alignment with Group Reinsurance, you will develop and lead all aspects of the reinsurance strategy development and execution. What you will do: Work closely with the EVP Chief Underwriting Officer, SVP Technical Director and SVP Chief Pricing Actuary as an objective business partner, develop and align treaty-level reinsurance strategies to support business strategy and growth plan. Collaborate with Group Reinsurance and Canadian BU Analytics colleagues, incorporating their input and findings. Support treaty premium planning & analysis. Oversee treaty contract compliance. Senior Management Responsibilities: Ensure data suitability for external and internal treaty pricing purposes. Collect and validate exposure information from the business. Design scope of cover; determine contract wording; release submission. Negotiate and agree terms and conditions with approved reinsurers; finalise contract wordings. Coordinate internal pricing models, calculate benchmark price, and validate risk transfer. Complete compliance forms, obtaining sign-off from Group Reinsurance Legal as required. Ensure reinsurance governance in accordance with Zurich Risk Policy is adhered to and documented. Business travel, as required. Extended hours during peak periods, as required. What you bring to the table: Ability to build strong business partner relationships. Experience working across business units/functions and collaboration in a team environment. Minimum of 10 years experience in reinsurance underwriting or brokerage. Profound understanding of OSFIs supervisory expectations of sound reinsurance practices and procedures. Strong verbal and written communication abilities, capable of engaging with high management levels. Proficiency and motivation in working with technical details. Strategic thinking capabilities. Proficiency in influencing and negotiation. Required: Bachelors degree, preferably in finance or economics. Preferred: Strong analytics skillset. Advanced knowledge of reinsurance contracts. Negotiation and business partnering experience. MBA or post graduate studies. Bilingual in English and French considered a strong asset. At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. The base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors such as office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications.
