MacEwan Universitys Sport and Wellness department is seeking energetic and dependable Camp Counsellors for casual appointments this summer. Working directly with the Camp Leader and Camp Coordinators, you will be responsible for supporting set-up and the direct and ongoing delivery of Sport and Wellness Day Camps. Key responsibilities include: Supporting registrations, set up and participants drop off and pick up; Participating in play and camp activities; Attending to childrens needs; and Protecting childrens health and safety. Skills You will have: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to remain adaptable and work both within a team and independently; A high degree of comfort and confidence in the water; Excellent communication skills; and The ability to articulate and model professional childcare practices, comfortably relate to children of all ages and demonstrate high physical and mental stamina. Qualifications Certified in Intermediate First Aid, or willingness to obtain the certification before staff training. Experience in aquatics and leading sport and recreational activities. Experience working with children and youth, with camp delivery experience being an asset. Certification in Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion / Bronze Cross, Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, NCCP coaching or other related certifications is considered an asset. Coaching or instructional experience is considered an asset. Experience with the Family Centre for Sport and Wellness, as a facility patron, program participant, volunteer, or staff, is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Position Requirements 16 years of age or older. Must be a student enrolled in secondary or post-secondary institution. The ability to attend training sessions in May and June. Availability to work 7 to 8 hours daily, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from late June through to August, up to 40 hours per week. The ability to stay in the water at our swimming facility for extended periods, carry and lift supplies, and remain attentive in noisy, disruptive, hot and cold conditions both indoors and outdoors. The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
