Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies. Reporting jointly to the Operations Manager and the Programs and Finance Manager, the Field Crops Unit Coordinator will provide strong leadership and direction to staff in the Field Crops unit while coordinatingthe units day-to-day operations, all while ensuring best management practices are implementedin the interest of safety, sustainability and environmental stewardship.Key ResponsibilitiesDirect and coordinate day-to-dayactivities and staff associated with operations pertaining to all aspects of field crop (e.g. forages, corn, soybeans, grains) management in support of livestock operations, teaching and research, campus snow removal, and facility and equipment maintenance, consulting Operations Manager and/or Programs and Finance Manager as appropriate.Operate and maintain large scale farm machinery. Navigate equipment in variable weather, field conditions and topography; properly match and utilize various tractor and implement combinations. Performand documentequipment checks, maintenance and repairs.Responsible for snow removal and salting operations for the Agricultural Campus during winter months.Provide technical or functional guidance to staff, students, faculty, volunteers and visitors working within the field crops unit; ensure all personnel are properly trained and following standard operating procedures and safe work practices.Offer technical support, demonstrations and data collection under the direction of faculty and instructors in support of research and experiential learning opportunities for students.In consultation with the Operations and/or Programs and Finance Manager, developand/or implement policies, protocols, procedures applicable to the Field Crops Unit, Farm, Faculty and University.NoteThis position is deemed an essential services position.The incumbent must be available to work flexible and irregular hours including overtime, weekends and holidays as required to complete time sensitive tasks. This position also requires being on standby and part of an on-call schedule for snow removal operations. Scheduling and compensation will be in accordance with the collective agreement.The incumbent will be regularly exposed to machinery, chemicals, organic and biological materials, animals, extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, and heights.Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Required QualificationsDiploma in Agriculture, Plant Science, Animal Science, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field from a recognized agricultural or related institution with a minimum of five years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).Demonstrated experience and knowledgein operation and maintenance of large-scale farm machinery and snow removal operations, utilizing best management practices for sustainable agronomic crop production, and accurate and thorough documentation and reporting of operations. Proven safety record.Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, andinterpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills. Proven ability to manage planning and workflow; schedule, delegate and support staff.Strong initiative, judgement, organizational, time management and problem-solving skillsValid current Class 5 Nova Scotia Drivers License.
