Our vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood, accepted and supported in community spaces. Position Description CAN is seeking to hire an Autistic-identifying part-time Peer Facilitator to help co-lead our monthly drop-in Autistic Dating Peer Group (ADPG). The ADPG is a space for autistic adults to share their relationship struggles and successes and support each other as everyone navigates, stating goals and relationship milestones in a small group. The program is not intended to practice dating or teach skills that mirror common dating experiences. But rather is a space for peers to explore what dating can mean to each individual, and for folks to share lived experiences navigating dating as autistic adults. Each monthly meeting will have a topic and the format will be open and discussion based. Potential topics could include: first date outfits, setting up a dating profile, fears and worries of dating, planning dates, Autism and dates, communication and sex, rejection and self-care etc. As a facilitator, your role is to create a welcoming and inclusive group environment and help facilitate meaningful group discussions and connections. You'll be co-facilitating this group with one to two other peer facilitators. Key Functions - Willingness to share lived experiences as an autistic adult - Working with CAN Wellness and mental health team to continue to develop and run the Autistic Dating Peer Group (ADPG) program. - Co-facilitate the ADPG, guiding participants in peer discussions based on group needs and interests. This includes CO leading the group in structured and unstructured discussion time, moderating chat and providing support as needed to participants throughout the meeting. - Help to create supplementary materials for ADPG program (example tasks: write content for a welcome slash information package, write questions for feedback and evaluation, create visual guides, handouts, etc.) - Recording attendance, taking meeting notes and completing canned communication logs after meeting sessions - Willing to share lived experiences and insights as an autistic individual - Attend initial facilitator training (note: may be other training opportunities throughout the year) - Completing meeting preparation and post meeting debriefing (example tasks: reviewing meeting notes and participant follow up) as needed. - Participating in additional team meetings as needed with CO facilitators and can Wellness and mental health team - Consult with community members about feedback on the program. Job Requirements and Assets - Must be 19 years of age or older. - In depth understanding of the various challenges Autistic youth face in the community, including lived experience as an Autistic individual (formal diagnosis not required). - Previous participation in CAN peer support groups is a strong asset. - Prior experience facilitating groups or training is strongly preferred. - Confident and comfortable with leading groups and managing positive communication between group members. Ability to foster discussions and connections. Comfortable with topics around dating, sex, and relationships. - Knowledge of existing community and other resources for Autistic adults. - Strong team player: willing to collaborate and be flexible. - Must be located in British Columbia.
