POSITION SUMMARY: THIS ROLE WILL BE HYBRID OR REMOTE DEPENDING ON LOCATION!! The Law Clerk/Legal Assistant provides administrative, procedural, and substantive legal support to lawyers and the legal team. This role is responsible for organizing the files, preparing legal documents, providing administrative assistanceand ensuring compliance with court rules and timelines. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment RESPONSIBILITIES: Setting up new files, preparing initial letters, correspondence, photocopies, and scans of documents. Arrange for process server to serve and/or file court documents when required. Arrange for examinations for discovery, meeting with insureds, settlement meetings, mediations, for lawyer. Process legal payment requests. Draft pleadings, Affidavit of Documents, Motion materials, and correspondence. Manage electronic filings via JSO portal and organize digital hearing bundles for Case Centre. Review medical records and prepare medical summaries. Follow up on answers to undertakings of parties. Obtain executed authorizations and correspond with third parties for production of medical records, school records, employment records, and other relevant documents. Set appropriate call-up dates and deadlines pursuant to Rules of Civil Procedure and Practice Direction. Prepare and maintain lawyer''s briefs. Assist lawyer in trial preparation including summary of transcripts, contacting witnesses, drafting Requests to Admit, Notices, and arranging for issuance and service of Summons to Witness. Draft closing documents including full and final release, consent orders, infant settlement approval. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE Legal Assistant/Secretary diploma. Diploma from the Law Clerks of Ontario Associate program. 10+ years experience in legal office, preferably in civil litigation. Excellent comprehension of the law with document management and research skills. Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at one time. Takes pride in producing quality and quantity of work that meets/exceeds the expectations of the position. A critical thinker who displays accuracy and attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office and legal file software. Excellent interpersonal and client service skills. Selfstarter able to work with minimum supervision. Ability to communicate in French desirable.
