Position Title: Industrial Hygienist Team and Location: Burnaby Refinery, BC Minimum starting salary: $76,000 /year Position Summary The Industrial Hygiene (IH) Professional will play a key role in providing technical leadership and direction in the industrial hygiene programs for the Parkland Refinery. This position will be responsible for facilitating program compliance with WorkSafe BC, provincial, and federal safety and health regulations. In addition, this role provides daytoday technical and field support as well as subjectmatterexpert support during emergency response incidents. This position will work with other senior IH/Safety and emergency response personnel as well as interact with all levels of management, Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Medical Services, and contractors. Key Responsibilities Serve as selfmotivated and proactive technical resource for industrial hygiene issues (Operational Excellence process, WorkSafeBC compliance, other health issues, etc.) with strong writing & documentation skills. Provide daytoday field/technical support to field workforce on general industrial hygiene and safety issues. Identify chemical exposure hazards as well as the application of fieldbased hazard communications programmes and technical aspects (e.g., toxicology) and application of exposure limits; expertise in recognition, evaluation and control of hazardous agents including H2S, benzene and other aromatics, petroleum products, streams and other hydrocarbons, welding fumes, lead, asbestos and manmade mineral fibres. Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring, surveys, and statistical data interpretation. Present findings to field personnel and management. Incumbent should be highly knowledgeable with technical aspects of industrial hygiene (acute and chronic chemical health effects, statistical use of data, methods of sample collection, data integrity, indoor air quality, radiation programme management etc.). Interpret laws/regulations or policies/best practices, determine applicability & develop compliance guidelines and provide practical solutions for field implementation. Audit refinery performance against requirements and recommend practical corrective actions. Able to make decisions independently. Able to establish priorities and balance longterm work with daily needs while keeping poise and professional demeanour. Conduct industrial hygiene or safety training or outreach activity with Refinery personnel. Work as a team member on HSE issues with peers, management and line field personnelbuilding good and productive relationships. Conduct health and safety compliance audits and inspections. Facilitate and/or participate in incident investigations. Manage Safe Work Practices, exposure control plans and programmes such as: IH, Radiation, Ergonomics, Asbestos, Leadcoating, HAZCOM (SDSs), IAQ and Lab ventilation, respiratory protection programme, hearing conservation programme, benzene, hydrogen sulphide, etc. Manage IH instrumentation inventory and coordinate calibration, service and repair of equipment. Participate in the Emergency response system, responding as requested to afterhour emergencies. Respond to internal or community monitoring events with established practices (Occasional oncall duty for 24/7 coverage). Be able to climb ladders, work at elevation (greater than 50 feet) and work within confined spaces. Ability to work day/night shifts and weekends/holidays with extended hours during Refinery Turnarounds. Wear a respirator or other protective equipment. Position may require travel within BC, Canada, and the USA to support Parkland IH needs outside the Refinery.
