Job Description

POSITION: Mechanical Lead Hand SALARY: $37.79 $41.44 per hour + an excellent benefits plan. CLASSIFICATION: J13-S1 HOURS OF WORK: 80 hours bi-weekly, Monday to Friday 8:00AM to 4:00PM. Shifts may change based on organizational needs. STATUS: Regular full-time CLOSING DATE: March 16th, 2026, at 12:00PM COMPETITION #: 26-09 SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Lead Hand helps ensure WSPR facilities and programs operate smoothly. This is a handson position, involving work with refrigeration, boilers, airconditioning and chilledwater systems, as well as coordinating maintenance and repairs with contractors. This includes access to the weight room, fitness classes, pool, and skating rink! JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Oversees preventative maintenance to minimize disruptions in services to public. Develops and maintains operating instructions and procedures for equipment under their purview. Establishes and maintains periodic operational testing schedule for critical systems and equipment with recommendations to supervisors to improve efficiencies and deficiencies. Coordinates contractors, schedules work, escorts and observes while on site, to ensure projects are completed on time while adhering to a budget. Provides ongoing leadership and work guidance to Facility Maintenance Workers. Performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled duties; diagnose, inspect, trouble shoot, and overhaul electrical control circuits, temperature and pressure controls, and all related refrigeration and pool components using manuals, blueprints, ticketed contractors and equipment knowledge. Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs refrigeration systems; airconditioning, chilled water systems, and refrigeration units using skilled ticketed contractors where necessary. Monitor refrigerant levels, repair compressor units, and contribute to research on refrigeration equipment. Maintains and adjust heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for optimal performance. Operates a variety of equipment used in ice making, resurfacing and related operations. Maintains service records for machinery and equipment; works with the COE to meet TSBC requirements. Trains employees in arena/equipment maintenance, pool operation and maintenance, security and safety. Adheres to safe work practices in line with all regulatory requirements. Performs additional duties of similar scope and complexity as required. QUALIFICATIONS Highschool diploma (or equivalent), plus at least three years experience doing skilled or semiskilled maintenance and repair work on equipment such as general building systems, air handling units, boilers, and large refrigeration equipment. A 4th Class Power Engineering ticket or Refrigeration Operator certificate recognized by the Technical Safety BC is required. Pool Operators I and II certificates are required. A valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License is required. Experience training and providing work direction to staff. Experience in janitorial and building maintenance work, including WHMIS. Experience with software programs, including simple digital control systems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships and support a team environment. Strong customer service skills. NOTE: Due to WCB Regulations, steeltoed shoes are a requirement for this position.
