Our client is a well-established, privately held manufacturing organization based in the Metro Vancouver area. With decades of experience in engineered wood and value-added building materials, they are recognized for their commitment to quality, operational excellence, and long-standing customer relationships across Canada and international markets. As they continue to evolve and grow, they are seeking a General Manager Plant Operations who will be responsible for the effective operation of their wood manufacturing facility by establishing and executing operational and management plans, driving productivity and efficiency gains. The new hire will also ensure employee safety and product quality, provide clear direction and leadership to the plant staff through goal setting, performance and metric reviews, action planning, training and development as well as continuous improvement and optimization of all production processes. Responsibilities Safety & Environmental Leadership Develop and lead the Annual Accident Prevention Program. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and insurance requirements. Promote a strong safety-first culture across the organization. Operational Leadership & Team Development Provide overall accountability for Production, Quality, Maintenance, Fibre Supply, Health, Safety, and Environment. Build, develop, and succession-plan a high-performing leadership team. Ensure the right talent is in place; coach, mentor, and address performance gaps as needed. Collaborate with senior leadership and represent the organization with government and external stakeholders when required. Establish and achieve annual production and operating plans aligned with market demand and fibre supply. Lead capital planning (annual and five-year) to improve efficiency, recovery, and profitability. Optimize equipment utilization, labour productivity, and material recovery. Stay current on industry trends, equipment developments, and competitive landscape. Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets. Monitor profitability, costs, inventories, fibre supply, and by-product optimization. Provide quarterly operational and financial updates to ownership. Qualifications Strong leader and problem solver with an analytical mind and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Education or equivalent experience in Engineering, Business or Wood Sciences with manufacturing operations leadership experience OR demonstrated management abilities applicable to the position. 7+ years working in wood production management. Proven track record of driving operational success and results in plywood production, quality, and costs required. Financial, process management, and team leadership skills. Skillful problem solving and troubleshooting techniques. Capable of working effectively under pressure and meeting strict deadlines. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills required. Compensation $180,000-200,000 annual base salary. Annual bonus based on companys performance. Paid Time Off.
