Environmental Compliance Manager (North America) Location: Vancouver (Travel ~30%) Reports to: Regional Director, Environment (North America) Our blue-chip international mining company operates a portfolio of assets across North America and Latin America, supported by enterprise-wide teams that set strategic direction, standards, governance, and shared services. This role blends deep technical expertise, regulatory insight, and strong stakeholder leadership. Youll work closely with Operations, Projects, and Legacy teams, and engage with regulators, Indigenous government organizations, communities, and other external partners to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that meet commitments and enable sustainable mining practices. What Youll Do Champion a strong safety-first and environmentally responsible culture; lead by example and support safe work practices. Set strategic direction for environmental science priorities across the North American portfolio, aligning to business needs and performance goals. Provide technical leadership and oversight across key environmental disciplines, including water quality/quantity, mine waste, air quality, toxicology, fisheries/aquatics, spills and waste management, biodiversity, noise, and related risk assessments. Guide environmental components of permits, approvals, and management decisions, ensuring requirements and commitments are understood and met. Identify and communicate material risks, issues, and opportunities affecting operational performance, project advancement, and legacy outcomes. Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with regulators, government representatives, Indigenous government organizations, lease holders, communities of interest, and environmental organizations. Lead and support external discussions and negotiations on conditions, commitments, agreements, mitigation actions, and approval terms. Oversee development and upkeep of robust monitoring programs that satisfy regulatory requirements, commitments, and business objectives. Review and provide direction on environmental reporting (internal and external), ensuring quality, clarity, and defensible technical rationale. Ensure annual planning, scheduling, and budgeting support delivery of commitments and environmental priorities. Coach and develop team members and consultants; foster collaboration, inclusivity, accountability, and continuous improvement. Support operational training and capacity building to ensure consistent application of standards, guidelines, and procedures. Stay current on emerging environmental issues and trends that could affect reputation, risk, and sustainability performance. What You Bring Bachelors degree (or equivalent experience) in an environmental-related discipline; a relevant professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio.) is an asset. 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental sciences within mining or natural resources, including leadership in compliance and risk management. Strong working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and permitting requirements relevant to mining activities. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary technical teams and manage consultants across varied environmental specialties. Proven success influencing outcomes through strong technical judgement, clear regulatory rationale, and effective decision support. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with government agencies and Indigenous groups, and navigating complex or contentious situations. Technical depth across environmental disciplines such as water, air, waste, toxicology, fisheries/aquatics, biodiversity, and ecological/human health risk assessments. High level of critical thinking, analytical capability, and technical writing proficiency. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing competing demands, and leading multiple workstreams at once. Curiosity and confidence to ask well-formed questions, surface creative tension, and drive better outcomes. Willingness to travel approximately 30% annually.
