Job Description

Counsellor II/III Saskatoon Reporting to the Program Coordinator of Student Supports, the Counsellor plays a key role in supporting students mental health, emotional wellbeing, and crisis intervention needs. This position integrates schoolbased and community services to foster a supportive environment that helps students overcome social and mental health challenges. Qualifications Education: Minimum fouryear bachelors degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field (Masters degree preferred). Experience: At least three years in mental health counselling, crisis intervention, and career counselling within the human services field. Cultural Competency: Experience working with Mtis and First Nations communities and a deep understanding of historical and cultural trauma. Professional Membership: Current standing with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW). Skills: Expertise in mental health assessments, crisis management, career counselling methodologies, and leading mental health and wellness programs in educational settings. Additional Requirements: Valid drivers license and willingness to travel across Saskatchewan. Key Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work confidentially and ethically within professional guidelines. Leadership and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and community organizations. Organizational skills to manage multiple caseloads efficiently. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and understanding Indigenous cultures, traditions, and communities in Saskatchewan. Crisis intervention and deescalation techniques, conflict resolution, and sound decisionmaking under pressure. Responsibilities Conduct individual assessments and develop personalized support plans addressing mental health and career development needs. Manage a caseload, providing ongoing support while maintaining confidentiality. Deliver immediate crisis response services and assist in schoolwide crisis intervention planning. Collaborate with institute staff, community service providers, and external agencies to coordinate student support and referrals. Participate in wraparound support meetings with managers, staff, and community partners. Advocate for students, ensuring access to necessary educational and external resources. Develop and implement programs on resiliencebuilding, emotional regulation, coping strategies, and career readiness. Promote socialemotional wellbeing through initiatives that reduce isolation and foster positive coping mechanisms. Provide postcrisis support and facilitate access to longterm resources when needed. Offer culturally sensitive counselling, particularly supporting Indigenous students and those from diverse backgrounds. Travel monthly to various locations across the province for inperson support, with virtual services when travel is not feasible.
