We have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and articulate individual with farming experience who will lead teams of staff and volunteers in carrying out farming operations and assist with the delivery of food security and education programs. Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, duties will include:DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCarry out farming operations including field prep, planting, maintaining, harvesting and post harvesting handling of cropsMarket and distribute crops through direct sales, CSA, farmers markets, and other marketing programsReach out to local chefs, caterers or food distributors to increase direct salesTrain and supervise farm volunteers and interns.Participate in organic soil management activities including composting, soil amendment and cover croppingPlan and implement effective and productive on-site composting systems for waste managementImplement irrigation and water conservation strategiesDeliver educational programs on growing food for adults or childrenAssist with other programs at the Agassiz site including the delivery of food security programs and special events as requiredMake sure tools and equipment are well maintained and that tools and supplies are available when neededOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSPost-secondary graduation related to agriculture, horticulture, environment, or similarAt least 1-2 years farming experienceKnowledge and understanding of sustainable horticultural practicesFamiliarity with small farm equipment including proper use and maintenanceGood interpersonal and communication skillsValid BC Drivers LicenseEnjoyment of outdoor physical workBasic carpentry skills an assetTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTThis position will be located at 6031 Golf Road in Agassiz BC.This is a full-time seasonal position, 35 hours per week from April 1 through October 31 to be paid at the rate of $23 25/hr.
