Requisition Number: CASUA002234 Type: Internal & External Casual; 1X (one) headcount needed Hours of Work: On-call/Casual; (9:30am-5:30pm Tuesday through Friday as needed) Compensation: $19 per hour Program & Location: East Van Roaster Caf at 16 W Hastings and 319 Carrall Street Vancouver Union: BC Government Employee''s Union (BCGEU) This position requires union membership Deadline: By noon Monday, March 9th, 2026 About Us East Van Roasters creates bean-to-bar chocolate and coffee roasted and prepared in its 16-seat speciality caf, and is a social enterprise of Atira Women''s Arts Society, a not-for-profit organization committed to providing economic opportunities for women in Vancouver''s Downtown Eastside. About The Job Reporting to the General Manager, Barista will work in our coffee roastery and chocolate-making caf. Duties include: Daily dial-in of espresso and making espresso-based drinks (will train) Chocolate production Plating baked goods, chocolates, and drinks Customer service, taking orders and making suggestions for gifts and drinks. Keeping the caf and retail area organized and clean. Bake pastries when necessary (will train) Fulfilling online orders as needed (will train) Performing packaging duties as needed (will train) Packaging chocolate/chocolate confections and training others to do so. Maintain cleanliness and follow health and sanitation plan. Observing food safe procedures at all times About You You love food and are interested in learning about all thing''s chocolate & coffee. You have some experience and training in the culinary arts industry. You have or are able to secure Food Safe, minimum Level 1, and any other currently required VCH certifications. You have some knowledge of the Downtown East Side community. You are aligned with Atira''s mission, vision, values, and philosophy and bring a strong commitment to anti-oppression and intersectional practice. You understand the impacts of colonialism, especially in Canada, including the legacy of the residential school system, and you approach your work with cultural humility and respect. You are comfortable working in a harm reduction environment and supporting people who may be experiencing substance use and/or mental wellness challenges. You support those who choose abstinence while recognizing abstinence is just one option among many. You are inclusive and affirming of people of all genders, including transgender, Two-Spirit, intersex, transfeminine and non-binary individuals, and understand the realities of gendered violence, misogyny, systemic barriers and how these harms disproportionately impact women. Qualifications Minimum one 1 (one) year of work experience as a Barista is required Experience with espresso based drinks and cash handling Food Safe, minimum Level 1 certificate is required Knowledge of the Downtown East Side community. Ability to keep work area clean and follow food compliance with food safety regulations. Creative, quick thinking, with good problem-solving abilities Able to work a flexible schedule if required. Passionate about achieving the highest levels of culinary excellence and working with a dynamic team. Excellent customer service/engagement Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and work ethics Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. Opening/Closing duties and handling of cash experience. Highly organized and confident in running your station. Physically comfortable to lift 25lbs or more on a regular basis. Additional Requisites/Assets We are open to training and supporting someone who may not have all the necessary culinary arts skills, but who has an abundant passion for learning, an obsessive and abiding love of coffee and chocolate, and necessary innate tasting skills including a sensitive palate and a willingness to try new tastes and textures.
