Job Description Road Marker 1 Competition Number: 26/49 Posting Scope: Internal (Open to current City of Victoria employees only) Posted Date: February 26, 2026 Closing Date: March 17, 2026, 4:30 PM PST Department: Engineering & Public Works Work schedule: Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM 3:30 PM ( 40 hour work week); Temporary up to 6 months Salary: $ 32.09 per hour, Pay Grade 4 Job Code: 781 Employee Group: This is a CUPE Local 50 position Number of Vacancies: 6 The City of Victoria is seeking six (6) temporary Road Marker 1 employees to support the installation, maintenance, and removal of road markings, signs, and posts, and to assist with graffiti removal. One (1) position will be assigned exclusively to graffiti removal duties. POSITION FUNCTION Assist in the installation, maintenance, and removal of road markings and sign and posts, and removal of graffiti. KEY DUTIES Assist with installation, maintenance, and removal of road features such as painted road and curb markings and symbols, signs, signposts, pavement markers, and bollards; excavate and mix and place concrete for installation of signposts; clean and prepare surfaces for paint application; mark out layout prior to installation; place and collect cones and signs in work area. Operate a vehicle and trailer for transport of equipment and materials; assist with the operation of various paint application and removal equipment; use various hand tools such as hammer drill, angle grinder, coring machine, and post straightener; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns and other equipment; load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift. Remove or paint over graffiti from City property. Perform related duties where qualified. INDEPENDENCE Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor. Problems are referred to supervisor WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Effort: Lift and move heavy equipment and materials. (often) Perform repetitious tasks such as scraping, brushing, and shovelling. (frequent) Mental Effort: Normal. Visual/Auditory Effort: Normal. Work Environment: Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous) Work in close proximity to moving equipment and traffic. (frequent) Work from heights. (often) Exposure to equipment noise. (often) Work irregular hours. (premium item) KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES Understand and carry out job related instructions. Discuss job related matters. Operate various hand and power tools and painting equipment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Work and operate equipment safely. QUALIFICATIONS Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification: Grade 10. Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver''s Licence. Experience: 1 year of related experience. or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
