Job Description

Nurse Practitioner, Vancouver City Centre UPCC Salary range: CAD $74.48/hr CAD $81.93/hr. Overview The Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) provides urgent care for patients with nonlifethreatening injuries, illnesses and conditions that should be addressed within 12 to 24 hours, but do not require the service and expertise of a hospital emergency department (CTAS 3,4,5 or ESI 3,4,5). The UPCC operates 7 days per week, year round: Monday to Saturday 08:0022:00 and Sunday and holidays 09:0017:00. The clinic offers teambased care with offsite rapid access to Xray, ultrasound and labs, and links patients to appropriate care pathways that include specialist, social service, and primary care. Treatment and followup are integrated with existing primary care providers, and patients are supported to find primary care if unattached. Responsibilities Be responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients and clients, including diagnosing diseases, disorders and conditions. Initiate treatment, including health care management, therapeutic interventions and prescription of medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions, and employer policies and procedures. Provide professional guidance to other health professionals and participate autonomously as a member of interdisciplinary health teams. Collaborate with clients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for clients, families and communities. Develop and implement populationbased and evidencebased strategies to improve health and participate in policymaking and quality improvement activities that influence health services and practices. Participate in peer, program and selfreview to evaluate the outcome of services at the client, community and population level. Be responsible for own professional development and maintaining competence in the position, and maintaining privileges as active medical staff as required. Report to an Operational Director, Professional Practice and has key accountabilities for quality assurance and patient safety within the Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners. Qualifications Education & Experience Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Prior experience as a Nurse Practitioner in the field is an asset, but motivation is acceptable. Applicants must have Family NP certification and be able to see patients of all ages. Knowledge & Abilities Ability to perform the full scope of NP duties and responsibilities. Ability to apply core and noncore privileges, as required by the program, and maintain active medical staff status within VCH. Ability to apply knowledge of developmental stages, behavioral sciences, pathophysiology, psychopathology, epidemiology, and evidencebased practice to clinical diagnosis and patient management. Ability to apply pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to prescribing and evaluating treatment responses. Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, selfcare and prognosis. Ability to collaborate, consult with, and formally refer clients and patients to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate. Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices. Ability to identify population health trends and plan and implement strategies for populationbased prevention and health promotion. Ability to implement and evaluate planned change. Ability to define the specific areas of practice and client population for whom the position is competent to provide health care services. Ability to apply leadership skills within a program and team setting. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. As required by Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers in publiclyfunded facilities must provide records of their vaccination history.
