NDY Contracting is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Construction Lead Hand to play a pivotal role within our field operations team. This role is ideal for an experienced carpenter or field leader who takes pride in craftsmanship and is ready to expand their leadership impact on site while continuing to deliver exceptional trade execution. You will work directly alongside the Site Superintendent, assisting with daily site coordination, safety leadership, quality control, layout, and in-house carpentry scopes. While remaining actively involved in construction activities, you will take ownership of daily site execution while progressively expanding your capabilities in scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and documentation This is a hands-on leadership role with a defined development path into a Site Superintendent position. RESPONSIBILITIES Site Leadership & Coordination Support the Site Superintendent in day-to-day site operations and short-term planning. Assist in coordinating trades to ensure work flows efficiently and safely. Assign and communicate daily tasks based on skill level and schedule priorities. Act as the on-site lead when the Superintendent is temporarily unavailable. Help maintain site organization, workflow sequencing, and productivity. Participate in project meetings to gain exposure to overall project lifecycle and site management practices. Hands-On Construction & Craftsmanship Perform complex carpentry including framing, finishing, millwork, and specialty scopes. Complete layout for carpentry and support layout coordination with other trades. Verify measurements and tolerances prior to installation. Ensure all work aligns with project drawings, specifications, and applicable codes. Set the standard for workmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail. Step in to support schedule-critical scopes as required. Quality Control Conduct routine quality checks on in-house and subcontractor work. Identify and correct deficiencies prior to inspections. Ensure installations meet engineering requirements and building standards. Monitor sequencing to ensure work is completed correctly the first time. Safety Leadership Promote and enforce WorkSafeBC regulations and site safety standards. Lead daily pre-task planning and toolbox talks. Monitor site conditions and proactively mitigate hazards. Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols. Support incident reporting and documentation where required. Materials & Site Logistics Monitor material inventory and communicate shortages proactively. Coordinate with the Superintendent to ensure materials and equipment are available when required. Ensure materials are stored properly and protected from damage. Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites. Leadership & Career Development Mentor apprentices and junior tradespeople. Foster a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and teamwork. Develop skills in scheduling, coordination, and project documentation. Work toward progression into a Site Superintendent role through mentorship and increasing responsibility. REQUIREMENTS 5+ years of experience as a Lead Carpenter, Lead Hand, or similar role (commercial construction preferred though not essential). Strong carpentry knowledge and expertise including framing, finishing, cabinetry, and specialty scopes with a focus on attention to detail and fine finishing techniques. Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.Working knowledge of BC Building Code and construction best practices. Strong layout and measurement accuracy. Understanding of construction sequencing and site logistics. Solid knowledge of site safety protocols and WorkSafeBC regulations. Basic competency with construction management and scheduling software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to effectively collaborate and liaise with project stakeholders - Site workers, consultants, owners/ client representatives, local authorities etc Problem solving & decision making skills Ability to lead by example and remain composed whilst operating in high pressure environmentsClear interest in progressing into a Site Superintendent role. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 5+ years of relevant field experience in a carpentry or lead role, preferably in residential multifamily, commercial new construction, or renovation projects. Red Seal Carpenter certification or equivalent (asset) First Aid Level 1 (required or willing to obtain) Valid BC Driver''s License (Mandatory) Understanding of multiple trade disciplines Fall Protection, WHMIS or similar certification (asset). Machinery & equipment operation Competency (asset).
