The Public Safety Department is seeking individuals to join our auxiliary pool in a dual-role capacity as a Police Information Liaison/Custodial Guard with Police Support Services at the RCMP Detachment. In this combined role, you will support both front-line public service and prisoner care operations at the Detachment. Responsibilities As a Police Information Liaison, you will create police files; process clerical assignments and found property; take non-criminal fingerprints; operate various RCMP computer applications; handle cash; and provide information and assistance to the public in person and by phone. You will explain rules, regulations and procedures, answer and direct calls for the Detachment''s main phone line, and provide clerical support to operational units. As a Custodial Guard, you will conduct regular visual checks to ensure prisoner safety and security; record details in the Prisoner Log Book; assist with the booking process; search, clean and inspect cells and adjacent areas; assist with prisoner photographs and fingerprints; enter information into databases and spreadsheets; process prisoner effects; and provide first aid when required. Requirements You have several years of customer service and clerical experience, along with related custodial or security experience. You possess sound knowledge of the policies and procedures involved in the control, custody and welfare of prisoners. You demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to complete assignments accurately and efficiently. You are courteous, firm and tactful with the public, and exercise discretion and diplomacy in maintaining control of prisoners. You are able to maintain alertness while working alone and act quickly, properly and calmly in emergency situations. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute positively in a team environment are essential. Computer proficiency is required, as is a valid First Aid Certificate and a valid Class 5 BC Driver''s Licence. You must be able to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment. Successful candidates will be hired into and scheduled to work in both roles and must be available to perform the full scope of duties for each function as operationally required. Compensation Police Information Liaison $ % in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 16 January 2024 rates) Custodial Guard $28.37 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 14 January 2024 rates) Compensation will be paid in accordance with the applicable pay grade for the role worked. Hours of Work Auxiliary: Hours will vary dependent on operational need. Custodial Guard shifts may be up to twelve (12) hours and include days, evenings, overnights, weekends and statutory holidays. Police Information Liaison shifts may include days, evenings and weekends.
