The Opportunity The Kitchen Manager is responsible for leading all food service operations within a licensed early childhood education campus operated by Fueling Brains. This role ensures that all meals and snacks provided to children meet the nutritional, health, safety, and sanitation standards required under Saskatchewan child care licensing regulations and public health guidelines. The Kitchen Manager oversees menu implementation, food preparation, inventory management, kitchen sanitation, regulatory compliance, and supervision of kitchen staff. The role ensures that meals provided to children ages infant through preschool are nutritionally balanced, safely prepared, and consistent with approved menus and dietary accommodations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with licensing inspections, health inspections, and internal operational standards. Key Responsibilities Compliance With Saskatchewan Child Care Licensing And Public Health Standards.The Kitchen Manager Ensures That All Kitchen Operations Comply With Applicable Regulatory Expectations, Including Adhering to the nutrition and food service requirements outlined under Saskatchewan licensed child care centre standards. Ensuring safe food handling practices consistent with Saskatchewan food safety regulations and public health guidelines. Maintaining documented evidence of: Approved menus Special diet accommodations Food preparation records where required Sanitation and cleaning schedules Ensuring meals and snacks are prepared and served in accordance with safe food temperature standards and sanitation protocols. Supporting readiness for inspections conducted by: Ministry licensing officers Public health inspectors Environmental health officers Ensuring kitchen operations align with the centre''s health and safety policies and procedures. Nutrition and Menu Compliance Implement menus that meet the nutritional needs of children in licensed early learning and child care programs. Ensure menus align with regulated meal and snack requirements for child care centres. Maintain documentation of menu planning and ensure menus are available for review by licensing authorities and families where required. Ensure substitutions maintain nutritional equivalency and comply with approved menu guidelines. Provide accommodations for: Allergies Food sensitivities Cultural dietary needs Medical dietary requirements Ensure food portions are age-appropriate and consistent across classrooms. Daily Kitchen Operations Prepare and portion meals and snacks in accordance with the approved campus menu. Ensure meal service timelines meet classroom schedules, including infant program requirements. Maintain kitchen readiness at the start of the day and ensure proper shutdown procedures at the end of operations. Ensure proper sanitization practices are followed before, during, and after food preparation. Maintain accurate daily logs and required documentation related to food preparation and kitchen operations. Ensure proper dishwashing and sanitation procedures are followed in compliance with public health standards. Food Safety and Sanitation The Kitchen Manager ensures the kitchen meets all sanitation requirements for licensed child care environments by: Maintaining a clean and sanitary food preparation environment at all times. Ensuring proper storage of food products in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas. Monitoring food temperatures and ensuring compliance with safe food handling practices. Preventing cross-contamination between raw and prepared foods. Ensuring proper labeling of food items, including allergen identification. Following First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory rotation procedures. Maintaining sanitation logs and cleaning schedules. Ensuring appropriate use and storage of cleaning chemicals. Inventory Management and Procurement Order food and supplies from approved vendors. Maintain adequate inventory levels to support daily meal preparation. Monitor product quality upon delivery and verify supplier orders. Conduct regular inventory reviews and maintain inventory documentation. Reduce food waste through accurate planning and monitoring of usage. Team Leadership and Staff Oversight Supervise kitchen staff and support their adherence to licensing and food safety requirements. Provide training on: Safe food handling Sanitation procedures Allergen awareness Kitchen safety protocols Develop and manage Menus. Monitor staff performance and ensure operational consistency. Support overall campus operations and collaborate with campus leadership. Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities Maintain records required for licensing compliance. Track food purchasing and kitchen expenses. Submit required reports related to child attendance for meal planning and operational tracking. Maintain documentation required for inspections and internal audits. Support campus leadership with operational reporting when required. Qualifications Education Food Safe Certification or equivalent recognized food safety certification (required) Chef Red Seal Certification (Preferred) Culinary training or related education (preferred) Experience Minimum 3 years of experience in kitchen operations or food service leadership Experience in regulated environments such as: Child care centres Schools Healthcare facilities Institutional food service Experience supporting compliance with public health or regulatory standards is preferred.
