About the position Duties Provides general maintenance, repair and labour services to support grounds, roads and facilities maintenance, water systems maintenance; construction and installations; and other general maintenance and semi-skilled repair requirements for the Parks Canada Agency. Work environment Nestled beneath the International Bridge in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the Sault Ste. Marie Canal was built to bypass the rapids on the St. Marys River. Opened in 1895, the canal completed an all Canadian waterway featuring the longest lock in the world and the first to operate using electricity. EXPERIENCE Experience in performing semi-skilled and general maintenance and repair, particularly in the area of grounds maintenance Experience in the operation, maintenance and servicing of equipment, fleet and tools Experience in service and maintenance records keeping/logs Experience in developing work plans and cost estimates Applied / assessed at a later date KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices, procedures and guidelines Knowledge of shop mathematics to perform applicable maintenance calculations Knowledge of general and semi-skilled repair, maintenance, construction and installation methods, techniques and practices General knowledge of computer use (word processing, spreadsheets, email) Possess mechanical aptitude ABILITIES Ability to work cooperatively with others Ability to take direction, develop work plans based on that direction, and carry them out efficiently Ability to identify repair and maintenance requirements, and apply appropriate resolution measures Ability to assume a lead role on repair/maintenance tasks and small projects Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and manuals Ability to assume responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others Exercises sound judgment PERSONAL SUITABILITY Shares Parks Canada''s vision Personally connects with people Communicates effectively Takes responsibility Strives for excellence Willingness to learn Language requirements (essential for the job) Applied / assessed at a later date English essential Learn more about language requirements.
