Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: This position provides pick-up and/ or delivery services to and from warehouse, Thrift Stores through application of safe driving and material handling procedures (as a relief or secondary driver) as well as provide basic general support and Maintenance: in a warehouse, thrift stores, food bank, soup kitchen of Ministry Unit. ACCOUNTABILITIES: The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties. Wearhouse, Pickups and Deliveries Warehouse sorting and delivery of appliances and clothing to the thrift stores. Warehouse stock shelving. Operating or running a forklift. Cleaning/upkeeping of warehouse and backyard. Seasonal pick-ups/deliveries to/from Thrift Stores, Admin/Food Bank/Soup Kitchen. This may mean at times assists Food Bank Driver with Food Drives pick-ups and grocery stores food donations pick-ups; pick-up clothing, shoes and miscellaneous donations from Soup Kitchen and Food Bank; delivering Kettle stands to kettle locations at Christmas. Process materials by loading, unloading, sorting, storing donations; protecting the integrity of the donations. Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to The Salvation Army standards. Sort and deliver supply to Parksville and Qualicum Beach stores from warehouse. Remove garbage and recycling from the stores. Sort and collect recyclable materials, meet the recycling truck each week, and load all recyclables for pickup. Dump garbage runs. Act as a driver for Food Bank food drives; pick-up/deliver of canned food from grocery stores on call hours. Ensure safe and careful handling of all deliveries and donations while protecting property, including donations and vehicles. Provide customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service. Load and unload goods at the warehouse, store, destinations or other storage facilities. Accept and sort out donated items at the bay area of Parksville Thrift Store. Ensure safe and careful handling of all deliveries and pickups using an assigned Salvation Army (TSA) vehicle in a timely and secure manner. General cleanup/garbage emptying. Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Perform circle checks of vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to ensure equipment is in good working condition. Maintain program vehicle log and report any problems. Maintain complete and accurate records (mileage, fuel costs, issues encountered). Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment. Program vehicles must be clean with all personal items removed daily. Cleaning and sanitizing of supplies and equipment used. Maintain knowledge of legislative and organization policies such as health and safety. regulations/policies, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts. Other duties: May direct work of volunteers who assist in the warehouse, MU, food bank May perform basic Maintenance: of/in warehouse, MU, food bank (patch painting, basic furniture repair, etc.) and assist with snow cleaning and basic groundskeeping. Perform other work-related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a part time Fixed Term Contract position. Working environment is typically in a program vehicle. The worker is required to drive and be involved in vehicle-related activities and tasks up to 70% of the time. The work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, and the ability to lift up to 39 pounds with no assistance from others. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army''s health and safety policies and procedures. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of High School Diploma. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Experience and Knowledge: Up to 1 year of safe driving experience. Valid Class 5 full Driver''s License for the province; an original copy of a current Driver''s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Strong navigation skills. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. Skills and Capabilities: Demonstrated safe driving practices. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $18.99 to $23.73 with a maximum of $28.48. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
