Job Description: Position Purpose summary: This position picks-up, delivers, and handles services to and from donors, clients, and ministry units in a safe, careful, and courteous manner and is required to adhere to all laws and safe driving practices while in control and possession of Salvation Army vehicles and property. Assists in the receiving, shipping, sorting, and handling of all materials secured for Salvation Army ministry purpose, while assisting in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and hazard-free workplace. This position involves a combination of warehousing/ other duties with some occasional driving. Accountabilities: The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties. Warehouse: Unload, sort, pack, store, load donations ensuring integrity of donations are maintained. Operate or run a forklift. Sort donations for distribution based on established standards of quality and distinguishes between discarded and good quality merchandise according to policy. Perform warehouse stock shelving. Direct work of volunteers assisting in the warehouse. Comply with all safety procedures and ensures work area and warehouse (inside and outside) is kept clean and tidy according to guidelines/policy. Comply with, but not limited to, wearing of safety shoes/boots/glasses/gloves/clothing (if/as required). Clean and sanitize supplies and equipment used. Clean/upkeep the warehouse and backyard. Pick-up and Delivery: Ensure the safe and careful handling of all pick-ups, deliveries, and donations, while protecting property, including public, Salvation Army vehicle, equipment, and donations. Load and unload goods at designated facilities or warehouse. Demonstrate a pleasant manner with the public. Assume responsibility for daily safety, maintenance, operation, and cleanliness of Salvation Army vehicles occasionally. Assume responsibility for all receipts and documentation related to maintenance and operation of Salvation Army vehicles including, but not limited to, fuel and maintenance receipts, kilometer/mileage logs, etc. once driving. Maintain TSA vehicle log and report any problems to supervisor. Maintain knowledge of road safety procedures, legislative and Salvation Army safety policies including, but not limited to, Provincial/Municipal Traffic Act, Health, and Safety Regulations, etc. Is responsible for personal payment of all fines and traffic violations incurred while in the possession/operation of a Salvation Army Vehicle. In absence of truck driver drive the truck to stores location, warehouse, Soup Kitchen, Food Bank. Seasonal pick-ups/deliveries to/from Thrift Stores, Admin/Food Bank/Soup Kitchen. This may mean at times assist Food Bank Driver with Food Drives pick-ups and grocery stores food donations pick-ups; pick-up clothing, shoes and miscellaneous donations from Soup Kitchen and Food Bank; delivering Kettle stands to kettle locations at Christmas. Ensure all food items during food drives are stored correctly to avoid any potential contamination of such materials. Thrift Store Bay: Process materials by loading, unloading, sorting, storing donations; protecting the integrity of the donations. Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to The Salvation Army standards. Provide customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service. Assist driver with bringing extra donated items to warehouse for later delivery to Qualicum Beach and Parksville stores. Sorting supply and supply delivery to Parksville and Qualicum Beach stores at warehouse. Load and unloads goods at the store bay area, and other storage facilities. Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintain store cleanliness) General cleanup/garbage emptying in the warehouse and bay area. Performs other duties as assigned. FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT: Moderate material responsibility. Safe material handling and picking up/delivering donations. Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources. May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a part-time Fixed Term 1-year contract position. Work Hours: 33 hours per week, one year contract, Tuesday Saturday, or Monday-Friday, flexibility required. Working environment is typically in warehouse or Thrift Store Bay with occasional driving periods. The work requires frequent amount of sitting, standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting/sorting, and the ability to lift up to 29 pounds. Flexibility in work schedule is required, as work hours may be adjusted based on program needs. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army''s health and safety policies and procedures. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. Education, Qualification and Certifications: High School Diploma. Current First Aid/CPR (can be obtained upon hire). W.H.M.I.S. Current Forklift Operator certification or willing to obtain upon hire. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Experience and Knowledge: At least two years of related experience including experience with warehouse processing or goods distribution. Demonstrated safe driving skills of a large vehicle. Skills and Capabilities: Sound interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Respectful and courteous demeanor. Demonstrated safe driving practices and strong navigation skills. Valid Class 5 Driver''s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required; an original copy of a current Driver''s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $18.76 with a maximum of $22.51. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
