Date: March 3, 2026 Status: Permanent Full-Time Location: City of Weyburn Utilities JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Meter Reader & Repair position is responsible for meter installation, accurately reading utility meters, performing repairs and maintenance, troubleshooting water service issues, ensuring reliable meter operation and underground locates of City infrastructure. This role involves regular fieldwork in all weather conditions, interaction with the public, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES Operations Install, repair, replace, and maintain water meters and endpoint devices in accordance with City standards and safety requirements. Monitor the Beacon metering software to identify, investigate, and resolve service or data transmission issues. Respond to and complete service connection requests as issued by Utilities Finance in a timely and accurate manner. Install and disconnect temporary water services as required for construction, maintenance, or special projects. Conduct flow rate testing to verify meter accuracy, system performance, and compliance with operational standards. Locate and mark City underground water infrastructure to support maintenance activities and external requests. Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with residents, addressing questions and concerns related to water services and metering. Participate in the departmental on-call rotation to respond to after-hours service needs and emergencies. Perform other related duties as assigned to support utility operations. Safety Ensures schedules, procedures and established performance safety standards are met; Leadership Communicates with tact and discretion when settling requests, complaints or clarifying information with the public, staff, outside agencies or other stakeholders SUPERVISORY MANAGEMENT No supervisory responsibilities. JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Grade 12 or equivalent Valid Class 5 driver''s license with the ability to operate City vehicles safely. EXPERIENCE Demonstrated knowledge of ultrasonic water meters and endpoint installation, maintenance, and repair. Proficiency in the use of Beacon metering software for monitoring and troubleshooting service issues. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently. Plumbing experience is considered an asset. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with regular exposure to snow, dust, noise, hazardous materials, and chemicals, requiring appropriate training and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Duties involve frequent interaction with the public and may require entering private residential and commercial properties. The position requires physical fitness to perform tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling heavy materials, working in confined or small spaces (e.g., crawl spaces), and standing or walking for extended periods. Regular vehicle travel between job sites is required throughout the workday. The position may require evening and weekend work and participation in an on-call rotation as operationally required.
