About the Opportunity: The Associate Director, Accounting - Revenue is a key member of the senior Financial Services team. Reporting to the Executive Director, Financial Services (ED), they provide strategic direction, leadership and supervision for the Revenue Function and work collaboratively with all Directors and Managers to achieve the strategic and operational goals of the Financial Services Division and University. The Associate Director manages day-to-day operations of transactional processing areas within the Revenue Function and student-related functions in Financial Services, including accounts receivable, revenue processes, cashier functions and revenue systems. The team is responsible for the full scope of financial services, including assisting in preparing financial statements, analysis, internal and external reporting, review and implementation of new systems and business processes, procurement, warehousing, and internal controls. This position ensures that all processes and interactions within the Revenue Function reflect TRUs values and the departments priorities, as well as a strong commitment to customer service and a focus on student needs. As the primary contact for university departments regarding revenue matters, the Associate Director provides analysis, advice, and business support to all levels of management, including financial analysis, variance analysis and reporting in the Revenue Function. They ensure compliance through current knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations. The Associate Director continually assesses and streamlines services to improve internal and external customer experiences. In collaboration with the ED, they also ensure the development and implementation of internal controls and processes to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the financial accounting systems, particularly in accounts receivable and revenue processes. Major Responsibilities: Oversees daily operational functions and long-term planning for the Revenue Function to align with TRUs vision and the Financial Services Divisions goals and objectives. Fosters a student-focused approach in the delivery of the Revenue Function services. Provides leadership, guidance and direction for a team of professionals, by establishing work plans, performance standards and priorities, fostering a positive work environment that will motivate and engage them. Manages the employment relationship, including hiring, supervising, providing training and development, managing and evaluating performance, and terminating. Analyzes and reviews the revenue related transactional processes to ensure accuracy and integrity. Facilitates the timely reporting of information to meet the needs of both internal and external customers. Oversees the accurate administration, recording and timely collection of all revenues by working collaboratively with the Registrars office and other departments. Ensures effective communication and cooperation with all departments to achieve revenue collection goals. Works with the Executive Director to review, develop, monitor, and amend systems procedures and business processes. Ensures internal controls are appropriate, functional, and operational. Investigates and implements best practice methodologies to enable self-sufficiency and operational efficiency within the university. Ensures compliance with applicable tax legislation and regulations (e.g., GST, PST). Establishes key performance indicators and benchmarks consistent with other universities and public sector operations. Participates in the evaluation and implementation of new financial systems. Assists in preparing and reviewing financial statements, reports and documentation, including monthly, quarterly and yearend working papers, continuity schedules and other reports. Proven ability to lead, manage, motivate and engage staff to achieve goals. Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
