Logistics: Role Type: Full-Time, Permanent Role Environment: On-site in Toronto, Monday through Friday Salary: $80,000-$90,000/yr + 20% bonus Day-to-Day Insight Global is looking for a Managing Editor to join our client in the digital media space with a focus on lifestyle, culture, and current affairs. You will spearhead a videofirst, digitalfirst editorial strategy that blends equal parts creativity and analytics. In this role, you set the storytelling vision and establish the editorial tone that resonates across demographics and regionsthen ensure local teams deliver against it. Youll manage City Editors who oversee Toronto, Vancouver, and National coverage, coaching them to hit performance metrics while elevating content quality and consistency. Daily, youll review dashboards (GA4, GTM) and SEO data to guide commissioning, packaging, and distribution decisions; identify content gaps and new formats (especially short-form and social video); and refine the playbook for how the publication should look tomorrow. Youll translate insights into clear priorities, optimize headlines and thumbnails, and partner closely with product, sales, and social teams to extend reach and monetization. Youll be the brands editorial voice on platformprotecting tone, pushing creative risk-taking, and ensuring content offerings ladder up to brand growth. Finally, youll lead Vancouver market expansion: building local presence, strengthening ecosystem penetration, and turning competitive analysis into action. Must Haves Editorial Leadership: Proven experience leading multimarket editorial teams with a strong, recognizable editorial voice; able to set vision and hold teams accountable to it. VideoFirst Storytelling: Portfolio of concepting, packaging, and distributing video content (shortform and/or longform) across social and owned platforms; strong thumbnail, headline, and hook instincts. 50/50 Creative & Analytical: Comfort switching between creative direction and data interpretation; able to turn insights into creative briefs and clear execution plans. DigitalFirst Mindset: Deep understanding of modern content ecosystems (social, search, platform algorithms, distribution partners) and how to penetrate/scale within them. Data Tools: Hands-on with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM) ; adept at analyzing the reporting dashboards and translating metrics into action. SEO Expertise: Practical command of search intent, onpage optimization, entity-based SEO, and content packaging that drives discovery without sacrificing editorial integrity. Metrics Ownership: Track record of growing audience, engagement, watch time, CTR, retention, and conversion; sets OKRs/KPIs and rallies teams to hit them. People Management: Coaches editors, gives actionable feedback, manages performance, and builds hightrust, highvelocity workflows across regions. CrossFunctional Partnering: Collaborates with audience development, social, sales/brand partnerships, product, and design to align content with growth and revenue goals. Communication: Clear, decisive communicator who can represent the brand publicly and internally; comfortable being the platforms editorial voice. Competitive Drive: Resourceful, scrappy, and commercially aware; brings a sales mentality to packaging content that grows audience and monetization. Plusses Experience launching or scaling a new market/edition (ideally Vancouver or similar metropolitan ecosystem). Background in lifestyle, culture, and current affairs publications with multiregion coverage. Proven success with shortform video (Reels, TikTok, Shorts) including hook frameworks, retention tactics, and thumbnail/headline testing. Familiarity with content monetization (branded content, sponsorships, affiliate, membership) and editorial guardrails for revenue alignment. Comfort with A/B testing tools, social listening platforms, and competitive intelligence workflows. Experience building editorial playbooks and tone/voice guidelines that scale across local teams. Ability to brief and collaborate with design/video production on motion graphics, packaging, and visual identity. Relationships in local creator, cultural, and events ecosystems ; knack for partnerships that extend reach. Working understanding of CMS workflow optimization and audience development tools (e.g., newsletters, push, recirculation modules).
