About the role: The PCC is seeking a knowledgeable, creative, organized, and safetyminded leader with strong supervisory, communication, and problemsolving skills for the role of Horticulture Supervisor. Reporting to the Manager, Forestry & Horticulture, the Horticulture Supervisor will provide direction, coaching, and oversight to horticulture employees to ensure the successful execution of greenhouse operations, planting programs, pest management, and maintenance of annual and perennial displays throughout Wascana Centre PCC-managed lands. The Horticulture Supervisor upholds high horticultural standards, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and fosters teamwork while maintaining respectful and professional relationships with staff, partners, and the public. The Horticulture Supervisor also represents the PCC through tours, presentations, educational outreach, and media interactions. This role requires the ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, manage multiple concurrent operations, and respond promptly to issues that may affect team performance, plant health, budgets, or public expectations. Some weekend or extended hours may be required due to the nature of greenhouse and field operations. As part of the leadership team, you work closely with management to support operational planning, seasonal design initiatives, and program delivery. In this position, you will: Supervise Greenhouse, Horticultural Field Operations, and Interior Plants watering contracts. Supervise a team of (3) three year-round employees and up to (14) fourteen seasonal employees, including assigning schedules and tasks, performing work reviews, and supporting staff and positive workplace culture through coaching and conflict resolution. Ensure a safe working environment by leading and maintaining the department''s safety management system, including training, monitoring, evaluation and records keeping. Coordinate all departmental purchasing for approval through Manager, including preparing business cases, purchase requisitions and obtaining vendor quotes. Oversee departmental fleet assignments, equipment inventories, tool rotations, deficiency tracking and maintenance schedules. Manage quoting, consulting, pricing reviews, and project coordination for indoor horticulture services including annual contracts, fee-for-service floral displays and other floral and plant-related requests for service. Serve as horticultural subject matter expert for PCC, including public engagement, media interviews, conducting group tours and providing input on projects. Review preconstruction plans for PCC projects with horticultural components and attend site meets and planning meetings as required. Qualifications: Typically, the knowledge required for this position is obtained through the completion of a 4-year university degree OR 4-year journey diploma in horticulture or a related field, including a pesticide applicator license for greenhouse application. Success in this role is supported by knowledge and experience in the following areas: A minimum (1) one year of supervisory experience of large teams (ten or more) including team leadership, scheduling, performance input, training, conflict resolution, and supporting safe work practices. A minimum three (3) years'' experience in production greenhouse operations and horticulture operations, including seed germination, plant propagation, large-scale floral design, annual/perennial crop management and care, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Advanced identification and care knowledge of indoor tropical plants, local zone-hardy perennial plants and flowering annual plants. Demonstrated ability to design detailed annual and perennial flower beds for public enjoyment. Proficiency with computers and digital tools such as databases, spreadsheets, and presentation software particularly for the purposes of records management and operational reporting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical horticulture information to staff, partners, and the public. Strong organizational and administrative abilities, with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team. Experience in a public park setting would be an asset. A valid Class 5 Driver''s license is required.
