Reports To: President & General Counsel Company Overview: Based in Vancouver, Canada, with offices in Portugal, Vietnam and the US, Empowered Startups partners with governments, leading universities, and research institutions to commercialize innovations and bring novel discoveries to market. We help design and deliver programs that attract highhuman capital and foreign direct investment, accelerating the journey from lab to marketplace while building innovation clusters and stimulating local economies. Position Overview: We are seeking a business-minded and practical lawyer with 4+ years of solicitor practice experience in BC or another Canadian or US jurisdiction. The candidate must excel at drafting and negotiating contracts but also have the interest and the aptitude to be very involved in all business-related matters at a growth-oriented organization as we expand into new markets. The position will work directly with the management team and also provide practical guidance to the operations team responsible for global operations across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong communication and organization skills, and a drive to help the company meet revenue targets. The position provides the opportunity to grow with the company into a VP position with a broader portfolio of responsibility, so mid-career associates or in-house counsel with an interest in contributing to executive level decisions are encouraged to apply. This position will start as an in-house counsel role but the duties are very much a hybrid mix of legal and business operations. The role embraces an online pan-global digital work environment that requires ongoing communication with international clients and requires a full-time yet flexible work schedule. Compensation: $165,000 salary or commensurate with experience. Commitment: Full-Time. Location: Our head office is located in downtown Vancouver, Canada.
