About The Team The Web Platform team builds the shared foundations that enable Scribds product teams to ship highquality web experiences efficiently. We focus on scalable frontend architecture, shared libraries and tooling, and durable patterns that improve velocity, reliability, and maintainability across our web ecosystem. A major focus for the team is Web Modernization : migrating legacy SPAs to a Next.jspowered Microfrontend architecture, enabling faster iteration, safer scaling, and longterm confidence in how Scribds web product evolves. About The Role Were hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Web Platform to help drive Scribds Web Modernization program and build the frontend foundations for our next generation of web product experiences. Youll lead major modernization workstreams migrating complex legacy web applications into a modern Microfrontend ecosystem, creating repeatable migration patterns and shared foundations other teams can build on while ensuring performance, developer experience, and user impact stay high throughout the transition. This is a handson role with broad influence: youll ship productioncritical frontend code, define patterns and boundaries that other teams build on, and partner crossfunctionally to make architectural change practical and durable. What Youll Bring Key Attributes Strong ownership mindset, taking responsibility for frontend systems from design through longterm evolution Strong systems thinking, with the ability to reason about frontend architecture at scale Pragmatic approach to modernization, balancing ideal solutions with incremental, lowrisk progress Strong collaboration skills and comfort working closely with both product and platform teams. Longterm perspective on maintainability, extensibility, and developer experience Experience We Value 6+ years of professional frontend software engineering experience Deep experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and React Handson experience with Next.js or similar modern web frameworks Experience working with or migrating large, complex, or legacy frontend codebases Familiarity with Microfrontend architectures, monorepos, or shared frontend platforms Familiarity integrating modern frontends with Railsbacked systems is a plus Strong understanding of web performance, bundling, and optimization techniques Experience collaborating with backend and platform teams to define clean integration patterns Comfort operating in environments with high traffic, high visibility, and real user impact What Sets You Apart Youve helped modernize frontend systems in production, not just greenfield projects You think about frontend architecture as a product for other engineers, not just a delivery mechanism You consider performance, accessibility, SEO, quality, and observability as firstclass concerns You invest in testing and quality practices that make largescale migrations safe and repeatable You enjoy untangling complexity and leaving systems better than you found them You care deeply about how technical decisions affect both developers and end users Compensation At Scribd, Inc., your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location. San Francisco is our highest geographic market in the United States. In the state of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $146,000 [minimum salary in our lowest geographic market within California] to $227,500 [maximum salary in our highest geographic market within California]. In the United States, outside of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $120,000 [minimum salary in our lowest US geographic market outside of California] to $216,500 [maximum salary in our highest US geographic market outside of California]. In Canada, the reasonably expected salary range is between $152,500 CAD [minimum salary in our lowest geographic market] to $202,000 CAD [maximum salary in our highest geographic market]. We carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including but not limited to experience; jobrelated skill sets; relevant education or training; and other business and organizational needs. The salary range listed is for the level at which this job has been scoped. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply.
