Location: Mississauga, ON, Canada Industry: Metals Role The Tailings Engineer focuses on developing Tailings Practice solutions for WCA/ECA, supporting the global market and managing existing projects while expanding Hatchs client base across the Americas. Manage all levels of studies, from scoping to basic engineering, guiding multidisciplinary teams in tailings projects with emphasis on ground engineering design, dewatering, transport, disposal, cost estimating, and construction quality assurance. Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated tailings, mine waste, and mine water management solutions: site selection, dewatering process technologies, subsurface investigation, laboratory testing, transport, conveyance studies, embankment design, deposition modeling, capping, closure studies, surface water management, dam break analyses, and flood routing. Provide advanced geotechnical engineering design in seismic regions and construction of mine waste facilities. Develop material takeoffs, conceptual CapEx and OpEx cost estimates, and schedules. Prepare technical documentationreports, specifications, design basis memorandareview and coordinate civil designers, and help prepare engineering drawings. Conduct senior reviews and technical audits or sponsor key tailings projects in the Americas. Lead business development and marketing to existing and new clients, independently preparing expressions of interest and technical proposals. Support tailings dewatering technology development related to projects. Provide career direction, mentorship, and management of engineers, geologists, and CAD designers. You Bring To The Role Recognized experience in consulting or construction within the mining sector with a postgraduate degree(s) in geotechnical, mining, or hydrotechnical engineering. Leadership skills and proven ability to mentor intermediate engineers, designers, and technicians. 1520 years of experience in integrated tailings management, mine water management, mine closure management, or mine waste geotechnical design. Construction/field experience, including quality assurance, drilling, or oversight of operational activities. Professional Engineer designation in Ontario or transferable from elsewhere in Canada, and knowledge of CDA, MAC, ANCOLD, and ICMM guidelines. Excellent verbal and written English; preferred bilingual proficiency in French, Spanish, or Portuguese. Ability to work seamlessly in an international team with a strong client focus. History of effective business development and strong client relationships. Project management skills and familiarity with WIV/WIH measurement tools. Highly proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project) and strong geotechnical modelling with GeoSuite (Slope/W, Seep/W); FLAC2D modelling desirable. Ability to travel internationally from Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver airports. Valid passport and capacity to obtain a Canadian provincial drivers license.
