Job Purpose The Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of structural steel connections in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including CSA S16 and CSA W59. The role also provides engineering support for steel fabrication, erection, and construction activities as required to ensure safe and efficient project execution. Responsibilities Display a strong commitment to Waiwards incidentfree vision, core values, and safety culture. Work independently or collaboratively to design and analyze structural steel connections in accordance with applicable codes and project requirements. Clearly communicate with Project Managers and Estimators to ensure design objectives align with project schedule and financial targets. Participate in the development, review, and continuous improvement of Excelbased design aids and engineering tools. Review shop drawings and connection details to ensure compliance with design intent and specifications. Provide construction and field support as required, including lifting studies, lifting lug design, erection plan development and review, and fabrication troubleshooting. Respond to RFIs and site inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Coordinate with detailing, fabrication, and erection teams to resolve technical issues and support efficient project execution. Qualifications Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA, or EngineerinTraining (E.I.T.) eligible for registration (P.Eng. preferred; mentorship available for exceptional E.I.T. candidates). 38 years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably in structural steel and connection design (reduced experience may be considered for strong E.I.T. candidates). Experience in structural steel connection design, ideally within a fabrication or construction environment. Strong knowledge of CSA S16, CSA W59, and other applicable steel design codes and standards. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (including development or use of calculation tools) and Word. Familiarity with Idea StatiCa, AutoCAD, and Tekla Structures is considered an asset. Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information. Strong analytical, problemsolving, and decisionmaking abilities. Highly organized, detailoriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a deadlinedriven environment. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders. Working Conditions Hybrid working environment, combining officebased or remote working arrangements with regular attendance in the office, as dictated by operational requirements. May require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines. Physical Requirements The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time, and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
