Staff Developer, Backend Department: Engineering Employment Type: Permanent Location: Remote Canada Reporting To: Cory Thomas Compensation: $144,000 - $216,000 / year Description At AgencyAnalytics, our Staff Developers are T-shaped: you operate broadly across multiple technical domains but also dive deep into specific problem areas when needed. You''''re part strategist, part builder, part mentor, and youre just as comfortable writing production code as you are setting architectural direction. As a Staff Developer, you can expect to be brought into initiatives at the strategy and discovery phases to ideate on whats possible. Youll experiment and drive new changes to existing system architectures. Youll be a coach and mentor to our engineering team. Youll set the operating rhythm to balance high efficiency with high quality, along with other Staff Developers and technical leaders. As a Staff Developer, you''''ll: Your time will be divided between leading cross-functional technical projects, building and reviewing architectures. Youll be setting and driving coding standards, technical processes, and tooling across engineering. Youll drive AI tool adoption across Engineering. You''''ll prioritize and work on multiple projects from start to finish, balancing quality, stability and project delivery. Through code reviews and mentoring, you''''ll set a high-quality bar. Youll also actively look for ways to improve the overall quality of our codebase. You''''ll work across teams to promote an open, collaborative approach to architecture, technical patterns, and complex problem-solving. What You''''ll Bring Youve got 8+ years of SaaS application development experience under your belt, with a track record of leading technical initiatives to successful outcomes. Youve previously held a Staff Developer or higher title, and youre ready to hit the ground running at that level. Youve embraced AI coding tools like Claude, using them daily. Youre handson and can go deep on backend technologies (PHP or similar). Youve architected complex systems, balancing performance, scale, and developer experience. You''''re fluent in performance best practices, and you know how to monitor and optimize for the user experience. You have closely collaborated with other Staff on foundational engineering decisions and product development. You thrive in ambiguity and can operate at different levels, from system architecture down to pair programming with a junior dev.
