Position Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer supports the designtoorder (DTO) engineering process for IEMs medium voltage power distribution products. This role involves extensive 3D modeling and 2D drafting, creating and maintaining BOMs, and collaborating with crossfunctional teams to meet project specifications and timelines. The Mechanical Design Engineer III builds on foundational engineering skills to contribute to project success while developing expertise in DTO project cycles, designing for manufacturability, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities Design and customize mechanical solutions to meet clientspecific requirements, focusing on manufacturability and compliance with industry and internal standards. Create 3D models and 2D drawings, including clientcoordination drawings and fabrication documentation. Create and maintain BOMs for standard product line assemblies and DTO project workflow. Support collaboration with clients, project managers, and internal teams to ensure designs are aligned with project goals and timelines. Provide technical support during manufacturing and installation phases to ensure seamless project execution. Essential Functions Review customer acceptance documentation for accuracy. Ensure project deliverables are on time and flag tasks that cannot be achieved. Ensure project designs comply with customer specifications, industry standards, manufacturability requirements, and internal quality benchmarks. Conduct selfreviews and participate in peer reviews to maintain highquality deliverables. Support DTO workflow templating and automation initiatives to increase project throughput and reduce errors. Collaboration And Support Support senior group engineers, manufacturing engineers, and plant personnel to refine designs for manufacturability. Work with manufacturing engineers to develop manufacturable design standards. Facilitate communication between design and manufacturing teams across multiple sites to align processes. Competencies Experience working in a designtoorder or custom engineering environment is strongly preferred. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a fastpaced environment. Familiarity with medium voltage switchgear, utility systems, or the power industry is preferred. Exposure to sheet metal design is preferred. Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problemsolving abilities. Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or ProE; finite element analysis (FEA) experience is a plus. Knowledge of IEEE/ANSIC37.20 and UL891/1558 design guidelines and NFPA70E are desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Education & Experience BSME or equivalent required. 25+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in DTO or custom engineering. Candidates with EIT certification on the path to Professional Engineer (PE) licensure are preferred. Compensation The salary range for this role is $86,000$130,000 per year, based on location, experience, and qualifications.
