McKessons Provider Solutions organization is investing heavily to deliver a connected, personalized digital experience for patients, providers, and manufacturers. As part of this strategy, we are modernizing our ecommerce Customer Center and transforming the underlying technology architecture. Were seeking a handson Software Architect to define the target architecture, lead modernization, and guide engineering teams as we evolve from a legacy stack (Java, SAP NetWeaver, GWT, Oracle) to a scalable, cloudforward platform. Experience with eCommerce and SAPintegrated systems is highly desirable. The ideal candidate can understand the current system, chart a safe modernization path, and lead development teams through the transformation. What Youll Do Own the technical architecture for the Customer Center modernization, including targetstate designs, domain boundaries, and migration strategies. Lead modernization execution using pragmatic patterns such as APIfirst design, domain decomposition, strangler approaches, and eventdriven integration. Mentor and guide onshore and offshore engineering teams, ensuring alignment to architecture, quality, security, and reliability standards. Provide handson engineering support when needed, including creating proofs of concept, reference implementations, and starter kits. Partner with Product, UX, Security, Cloud/Platform, Data, and SAP teams to design cohesive, scalable solutions. Ensure the application maintains an excellent security posture, including secure coding practices, securitybydesign architecture, threat modeling, and adherence to enterprise controls. Lead and participate in build, buy, and partner evaluations, analyzing tradeoffs, vendor capabilities, total cost of ownership, and alignment with longterm architectural strategy. Oversee integration strategy with SAP and other enterprise systems, ensuring robust data contracts, fault tolerance, and operational stability. Collaborate with operations to ensure observability, SLO adherence, performance optimization, and reliable production operations. Support production incidents as a technical escalation point and drive longterm improvements through root cause analysis. Participate in hiring and talent evaluation to help build a highperforming engineering organization. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Degree or equivalent and typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience. Less years required if you have a relevant Masters or Doctorate qualification. Critical Skills/Experience Extensive handson software engineering experience with strong expertise in Java and modern architecture. Demonstrated experience leading modernization or platform transformation initiatives in complex enterprise environments. Strong understanding of architecture patterns such as microservices, eventdriven systems, APIfirst design, integration architecture, and cloudnative principles. Handson experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), containerization, CI/CD, infrastructureascode, and observability. Ability to understand and work within legacy systems (Java, SAP NetWeaver, GWT) to plan safe and incremental modernization. Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across technical and nontechnical teams.
