Job Description

The Information Technology is currently seeking a fulltime regular Senior DevOps Specialist. This position reports directly to the Solutions Delivery Lead, Research Computing Services (RCS), is a fulltime permanent position and is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit. The normal shift is 7.0 hours per day, five days per week, usually Monday to Friday. Overtime is rarely expected but can occur due to system failures that require a callout or overtime for other deadlines. The Senior DevOps Specialist will support the use of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) by consulting with researchers to help them choose an appropriate IaaS solution between local infrastructure, Digital Research Alliance of Canada (DRAC) infrastructure or commercial providers such as Amazon Web Services. They will also work with the existing RCS team to help manage all aspects of RCS infrastructure. IaaS Platform Consult with researchers to help them determine the best location for their IaaS workflows. Installation, management and lifecycle of Linux systems and their environment (cooling, power and rack management and maintenance) and respond to related alarms. Installation, configuration and maintenance of local IaaS software. Creation and maintenance of templates for the IaaS infrastructure. Provide technical support for research workflows on virtual machines. Manage backup and restore of data storage associated with these systems as required. Monitor performance and tune as required. InScope Supervision Provide mentorship and coaching to Tech II system admins on the RCS team. Liaise, collaborate and provide consultative advice to RCS and researchers. Networking Responsibilities Implementation of network infrastructure and security within the local IaaS environment. Coordinate requirements and changes with UC IT network group as necessary. Monitor performance and tune as required. RCS Infrastructure Responsibilities Support other RCS staff in daytoday operations where appropriate. Assist in Data Centre operations where appropriate. Participate in systems architecture design discussions. Qualifications / Requirements Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering required, a combination of technical education and experience will be considered. Minimum of 10 years of recent and directly related experience. Experience with designing and deploying systems in Cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services. Experience deploying and maintaining IaaS and Container solutions. Excellent understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies. Administration of Linux. Excellent troubleshooting abilities. Highly proficient problemsolving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work in a teamoriented environment and independently carry out assignments and projects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
