Effective 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.**Position Overview**The Finance Business Partner plays a key role in supporting the City of Burlingtons financial planning, reporting, and performance management processes. Acting as a primary Finance partner to an assigned portfolio of departments, this position provides analytical, accounting, and financial advisory support to help leaders make informed, evidence-based decisions that support effective service delivery.**Responsibilities**Reporting to the Manager, Budgets & Policy, this position is responsible for the following key areas:* **Budgeting & Forecasting** + Support assigned departments in developing operating and capital budgets, business plans, and financial forecasts.* **Financial Monitoring & Reporting** + Monitor and analyze financial and performance results; provide strategic insight and prepare variance explanations. + Contribute to quarterly and year-end corporate financial reporting. + Participate in month-end and year-end processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and audit support.* **Advisory & Strategic Support** + Provide financial advice and guidance to managers and project leads to support informed decision-making. + Identify financial risks, pressures, or issues within assigned portfolios and recommend solutions. + Assist with financial modelling, business cases, and analysis to support departmental initiatives and projects.* **Collaboration & Process Improvement** + Work collaboratively with program/project managers, departmental leadership, and Finance colleagues to improve financial processes, reporting, and performance measurement practices across the organization. + Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to support sound financial stewardship and service delivery.* **Compliance & Policy Alignment** + Ensure financial information aligns with corporate policies, priorities, and legislative requirements.**Requirements**Ideally, you have a four-year university degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Economics, or a related field, along with completion of a professional accounting designation such as CPA, or active enrollment in a recognized professional designation program. This is coupled with four to seven years of progressive experience in areas such as financial planning and budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, financial modelling, variance analysis, and/or preparing financial reports.Experience in the public sector or within a complex organization is an asset. Youre comfortable working with ERP systems (Workday experience is preferred) and are confident navigating Microsoft Excel to analyze and present financial information effectively.
