Highlights of the job EPCORs Commercial Projects and Technical Services team is hiring an Engineer, Commercial Projects [Full time Permanent, Edmonton based position], who will actively drive innovative, technically rigorous commercial project execution across North America. As the Engineer, Commercial Projects, you are primarily responsible for managing, reviewing, and guiding complex commercial projects that are shaping EPCORs growing North American Commercial Services portfolio. Youll conduct technical reviews of design documents and partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure all final design packages meet applicable standards, codes, and regulatory expectations across both Canada and the United States (U.S.). Success in the role, requires an ability to learn, understand and apply a multitude of Canadian and U.S. codes, and regulatory requirements along with the ability to apply sound engineering judgement based on engineering principles in diverse project contexts. Youll also monitor project schedules, proactively resolve project challenges, and support financial performance through continuous budget tracking and reporting. A key aspect of this role includes championing health and safety by participating in process hazard analyses, performing job hazard assessments, and conducting construction site inspections. Youll be expected to attend a variety of health and safety related training to support your success on these projects. Other responsibilities include overseeing construction progress (both on-site and remotely), supporting commissioning and startup activities, and ensuring seamless transition to operations during project handover. What youd be responsible for Reporting to the Manager, Project Engineering , youll be responsible for ( but not limited to ): Leading cross-functional project teams including external partners by driving process-focused project design, cost evaluation, and constructability planning. Supporting the management of a diverse portfolio of projects across Canada and the USA while developing, implementing, and tracking deliverables aligned to the North American Commercial Services business plan. Coordinating and evaluating contractor and consultant work to ensure alignment with project requirements. Technical Reviews & Engineering Support Analyzing and interpreting design documents, identifying technical inconsistencies, and collaborating with SMEs to develop solutions. Preparing and modifying process/mechanical design bases, standards, and specifications to guide detailed engineering work. Assisting in the development of operations and maintenance programs and engineering documentation. Safety, Integrity & Compliance Reviewing and implementing facility Process Safety and Mechanical Integrity programs to ensure compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. Participating in HAZOP analyses and demonstrating a strong commitment to process and personal safety in all environments. Scheduling and planning inspections with construction teams. Supporting project controls activities by monitoring progress, schedule, budget and financial performance metrics to ensure projects deliver optimal outcomes. Anticipating, identifying and assessing project risks or potential issues, and implementing effective mitigation strategies. Providing clear documentation and reporting on project development, performance trends, and risk status to support decision making. Monitoring construction progress both remotely and in the field, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to design intent. Performing quality assurance audits and holding contractors accountable to deliver projects to specifications. Participating in engineering reviews, commissioning, and startup activities to ensure safe integration of new or modified systems. Supporting seamless transition to operations through clear communication, documentation, and issue resolution. Weve grouped the requirements to help you easily assess your fit: Qualifications: A bachelor''''s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute. A registered Professional Engineer ( P. Eng ) with APEGA or aspiring towards becoming a certified professional within 12 months after being hired into the role. Experience: 3 + years experience in a Process or Mechanical Engineering position or related role, preferably in an industrial or commercial processing or manufacturing plant environment. Candidates with less than the required experience may be considered to be in a developmental capacity and are still encouraged to apply. Proven experience working with process safety management systems and providing operational and technical support. Exposure commissioning, field inspections, and construction support activities , with the ability to perform quality checks and work directly in the field when needed. Technical Skills: Ability to analyze process/mechanical designs, troubleshoot issues, and recommend solutions across multiple industries. Strong ability to interpret and apply Canadian and U.S. codes and regulations relevant to project design and operations. Ability to write clear, concise technical and nontechnical reports for diverse audiences. Strong aptitude and ability to apply engineering principles such as fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials, corrosion, and mechanical integrity. Experience developing Operational & Maintenance ( O&M ) programs, Management of Change ( MOC ) processes, Integrity Management (IM), or operations training materials and supporting business units in technical queries posed during regulatory filings, as requested.
