Theory of Constraints (TOC) Operations & Throughput Specialist (Full-time, contract, part-time, fractional)Auger Hollingsworth is an accident and injury law firm with offices in Ontario, Canada. We are determined to become Ontarios largest personal injury law firm, and were entering a pivotal stage of growthone where this role will play a key part in identifying our system's constraints and maximizing our throughput. This TOC Operations & Throughput Specialist role offers remote work from anywhere in North America. You will thrive in this role if you are a 'Systems-First' strategist who is obsessed with bottlenecks, buffers, and the logical laws of cause-and-effect that govern a high-volume law firm. The RoleThe TOC Operations & Throughput Specialist is the firms Efficiency Architect. This is the person who ensures our 'Legal Factory' doesn't just work harder, but works smarter. You are responsible for the flow of a case from the first click to the final disbursement. This is a role for a 'Pragmatic Scientist'someone who can identify a 'Herbie' in a workflow in the morning and design a Drum-Buffer-Rope (DBR) synchronization plan in the afternoon. You aren't just 'managing staff'; you are building a high-velocity conversion and processing engine that turns legal talent into realized settlements. You are an expert in the Theory of Constraints because you understand that any improvement not made at the bottleneck is an illusion.Your Support SystemYou will report directly to the leadership team and work closely with the Marketing, Intake, and Legal teams. You will be part of a high-performance leadership rhythm, where your work is measured by Throughput (T), Inventory (I), and Operating Expense (OE). You will have the authority to subordinate non-bottleneck activities to ensure the firm's primary constraints are always fully exploited. What Youll DoFirst MonthThe Constraint Audit: Map the entire Auger Hollingsworth case lifecycle to identify the current 'Herbie' (the primary bottleneck).Metric Alignment: Audit our current EOS Scorecard to ensure we are tracking Throughput (Revenue) rather than just 'busy-ness' metrics.Voice of Jonah: Interview department heads to separate 'Statistical Fluctuations' from 'Systemic Constraints.'Quick Wins: Identify and eliminate one 'non-bottleneck' task currently being performed by a 'bottleneck' resource.Tech Stack Setup: Onboard or optimize workflow visualization tools (e.g., Kanban boards or case management Dashboards) to see 'Work in Progress' (WIP) in real-time.First 90 DaysImplement Drum-Buffer-Rope (DBR): Establish the 'Drum' (the pace of the bottleneck) and create 'Buffers' to protect the firm from upstream delays.Subordination Strategy: Train the Intake and Paralegal teams on how to 'subordinate' their workflows to support the primary constraint.Client Journey Mapping: Identify where 'Inventory' (stagnant cases) is piling up and implement 'Rope' mechanisms to control the release of work.First 612 MonthsElevation Phase: Lead the 'Elevation' of the constraintif we need more capacity, you justify the ROI based on Throughput increase.Systematized Scaling: Build a repeatable 'Process Factory' that allows the firm to scale into new practice areas without increasing Operating Expense proportionally.First Year and BeyondMarket Dominance: Ensure the firms internal efficiency allows us to out-spend and out-maneuver competitors on lead acquisition because our 'conversion-to-cash' cycle is faster.Predictable Throughput: Create a firm where revenue is a predictable result of system logic, not a lucky result of 'working harder.'What Will Set You Up for Success (S.E.T.)SkillsTOC Mastery: Deep knowledge of the Five Focusing Steps and Drum-Buffer-Rope.Data Architecture: Proficiency in analyzing case management data to find lead-time variances.Workflow Design: Experience with Kanban, Lean, or specialized TOC software.Strategic Communication: The ability to explain to a high-performing lawyer why they should actually stop working on certain tasks.ExperiencesCertification: Must have TOCICO Certification or equivalent deep-dive experience in Goldratts methodologies.5+ years in Operations or Process Improvement in a law firm or professional services (mandatory).Proven experience managing the transition from 'chaos' to 'systematic flow' in a growing company.TraitsThe 'Jonah' Mindset: You value the Socratic method. You ask the right questions to lead the team to the right logical conclusions.Data-Obsessed: You don't care how 'busy' a department looks; you care how many files they moved to the next stage.High Accountability: You own the Throughput metric. If the bottleneck stops, you feel the heat. What Wont Set You Up for SuccessFocusing on 'local efficiencies' (making one person faster) instead of 'global throughput.'Ignoring the 'Human Element'TOC is a technical system, but it requires buy-in from people. Why This Role MattersThe firms growth depends on our ability to process the 'Battle for Attention' that our marketing team wins. As the TOC Operations Specialist, you are the engine room. You ensure that every lead we sign moves through the firm with zero friction, reaching the finish line (the settlement) in record time.Compensation, Perks & BenefitsFully Remote Flexibility: Work where you are most productive.Unlimited Vacation Policy: We manage by results, not by the clock.Professional Development: Significant budget for TOCICO conferences and other relevant training.Competitive Compensation comprised of base salary and incentive bonusesApply in Confidence by March 16, 2026.
