Contract: 12 months Overview We are partnering with a leading Capital Markets technology group to hire a Senior Java Specialist who can operate as a toptier handson engineer and informal technical leader. This role suits someone who thrives in lowlatency environments, enjoys challenging the status quo, and can influence both engineering practices and architectural direction. You will work across Java trading platforms focused on market data, RFQ, and execution workflows. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to drive meaningful technical evolution within the team. What Youll Be Doing Improving performance of market data ingestion , RFQ , and trade execution workflows. Leading lowlatency initiatives (GC tuning, binary messaging, object reuse). Helping the team adopt modern approaches (e.g., SBE/Protobuf, Aeron). Mentoring experienced developers and raising engineering discipline. Contributing to architectural decisions, including Kubernetes vs bare metal deployments. Collaborating directly with frontoffice stakeholders and understanding business workflows. Required Skills & Experience Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot within trading or lowlatency systems. Strong understanding of: JVM internals & garbage collectors. Experience with binary messaging: FIX protocol knowledge. Strong Capital Markets experience: Rates , Swaps , Fixed Income , or related. Ability to work directly with the business (front office / traders) and gather requirements. Nice to Have Exposure to: Redis. Kubernetes and baremetal deployments. GitHub Actions and modern CI/CD.
